  I just bought three of his vials and I'm not worried. Both he and his brother had two kidneys. Frankly, I'm more concerned that all of his grandparents had arthritis LOL but hey doesn't everyone at that age to some extent?
  No one's reported pregnancies so far. I'm hoping that I will!

  Thanks BabyMama. Are you doing IUI? When is your insemination? If you don't mind me asking what is your situation? I'm single reached the magical age of 40 and want to be a mother. I've been trying for over a year. Been pregnant three times by two different donors but keep miscarrying. We're trying IVF this time so that the dr can see the quality of embryo that I'm pregnant with. There is no diagnosis for the miscarriages, they just think bad embryos due to my age.

  I'm 37 and single and this is my first try at getting pregnant - very excited! I decided to go with IVF the first time around to be efficient with my time (I'm only in the US for a few months) so fingers and toes crossed. My embryo transfer is scheduled for around Oct 28/29/30. Lots of luck to you on your journey to motherhood Sweettheartt :)

  Yes, I'm wishing you lots of good luck too. I think your chances are excellent for a pregnancy. Not sure when my transfer will be. I think it will depend on how many eggs they get, if not enough for testing I may undergo another retrieval the following month. If I get enough this time, I think transfer would be at the end of this month.
  The big debate is how many embryos to put in. How many are you thinking of doing?? At this point I'm thinking two.
  I know a lot of women travel to the states for IVF and donor sperm. The first time I got pregnant the woman who was also pregnant by the donor I was using at the time came from Chile, I believe. What country do you live in?

  I live in India and froze my eggs (in the US) a few years ago so will be thawing a batch of 10 for my IVF this time around, I'm hoping that will do the trick and I won't have to do a egg retrieval again. I'm likely going to transfer a single embryo.
  
  I'm still worried about the donor dad/one kidney thing, I've been told it's not usually genetic - but what if it is? I'm going to speak to another counselor on Monday.

  A friend of mine just went through IVF and with one egg and it went well and took on the first go. I'm interested in hearing what your counselor has to say. I think it is a positive thing to follow-up on. My layman's thought was because there are no others in his family that have that condition, it is most likely a one-off situation. At worst case, having one kidney does not change quality of life unless one has some other additional factors.
  
  With choosing a donor there is much debate. I preferred an open donor because if my child is anything like me they would be curious as to who their biological father is, however, I ended up with this donor because he had the qualities I was looking for in a donor. It is a balancing act as to all the other qualities one is looking for in a donor. But this is twenty years from now, perhaps the donor would be willing at that point to show an adult photo and have an email conversation with offspring. There's no guarantees either way.
  
  What qualities were you looking for in a donor? The three things I was looking for were intelligence/high grades particularly in math and science, athletics, and someone who CCB said was attractive. Background was not important to me as to his heritage. The other donors I used looked different than me, where as some women say they wanted a lookalike from their background. This time around the only donor I like is this one but he happens to look very similar to me. I have brown, wavy hair and green eyes. I think I'm just in all aspects a couple of shades lighter than this donor. My background is Russian and Irish/German which is similar to Ukranian and English. So although I wasn't looking for a lookalike child, I just may end up with one! Did you notice how red his lips were as a child? I had that too, with the dark hair and the light eyes.

  Sweettheartt - I had the same criteria as you when picking a donor and I'm really pleased with 13907's profile and personality characteristics. Doesn't matter to me whether open or anonymous. I actually watched "Delivery Man" with Vince Vaughn last night - funny movie about an anonymous donor who fathered 500+ children haha.
  
  I haven't been able to track down a genetic counselor to talk about the (donor's dad's) renal agenesis yet, but have decided to take the chance and take a leap of faith and hope that everything works out fine. My embryo transfer is scheduled for end of October! Fingers crossed - for both of us :)

  Hi BabyMama-
  I met with my fertility doc today and he would like to do at least a couple of months of egg harvesting so then we can do genetic testing on the embryos to make sure that good ones are going in. So I'm guessing my implantation won't be until at least December. Are you doing embryo testing? I debated with my Dr. this morning about how many to implant and I think it would depend upon the quality of the embryos. He said for me it would be about a 40% chance of it "taking".
  I saw Deliveryman at some point during this process. I wondered if it would scare some men away from donating. But on the other hand it must be neat to think of your progeny growing up all over the world.
  On another note, I had a trip planned and paid for to go to India last summer, but ended up not going because of all the vaccination shots I would have to take I worried about that putting me out of the getting pregnant game for while. My friend went without me and she had a fantastic time. Is the societal reaction different to a single mother by choice in India? Will it be more of a challenge for you?
