  • I was wondering how much pre-insemination testing you underwent? My Dr. wants me to do at least a x-ray to make sure my tubes are open. Unfortunately finance is a big part of this for me and I can't really afford that extra expense right now on top of pay for the vial and doctors fees each month. Hoping for a first try in November and my Dr is great and says we can wait on any testing until we are unsuccessful for a few tries. This is great for me and will allow me to prepare financially for any testing. Just wanted some thoughts on the matter if anyone could offer any.
  • carrie - there are two different ways at looking at the x-ray situation. The reason for the test is to see if you're tubes are open and the egg is able to pass.

Let's say you do 3 attempts - you get BFN's. You then decide to do the exam and learn that your tubes are blocked. You have just wasted all this money on sperm and other things.

I would definitely say weigh your options for sure.

EileenMJ - the key to being successful is having a doctor who knows you inside and out, literally! You and your partner have to be 1000000% comfortable with him/her. If you are not and feel a little somewhat off with them, I wouldn't continue to go to them.

The name of the game is to have the sperm waiting for the egg when it drops. Not the egg waiting on the sperm. The egg will drop roughly 36-40 hours after the trigger shot. Also, back to back IUI's doesn't really increase your odds much. Only by like 3%. Very small increase for the cost of the sperm.
  • Martinbaby: Both of the iui's we just did were with injectables. Still didn't work though :/

Carrieanddee: My partner underwent a whole bunch of fertility testing prior to the first insemination. Tons of bloodwork (one of the days they took 6 vials of blood from her!) and a gynecological exam, pap smear, std testing, etc. We had initially told our dr. to wait on the HSG testing (the dye x-ray test) to see if her tubes and uterus were normal and open but since we got a low number on the anti-mullarian hormone she insisted we do that as well. As Tomi said, I would suggest you go ahead and have it done b/c if you find out down the line that your tubes were blocked all the money you spent on iui and sperm was wasted. The finanical burden of it all is very hard but I'm sure we all won't even think about that once we have our little one in our arms.

Tomi: We went to a new doctor and she was soooooooo much better and a good fit for us. It really makes a difference. :)

So........there won't be anymore IUI's for my partner and I. After reviewing everything with our new doctor, we came to the decision to go straight to IVF after only 2 iui's based on her low ovarian reserve and the fact that we have already spent so much money on injectable meds and everything. We're not sure if we going to do it next month or after the holidays but we're pretty optimistic after speaking with our new RE. She gave us a new sense of confidence in our chances for success. :)
  • EileenMJ- I'm happy to hear you really liked your new 'RE and have a renewed sense of hope. Can't wait to hear when you start again.

Things are moving along on this side, had our first ultrasound and got to see the heartbeat!

    Please keep me posted
  • I bought 12969 in August - IUI Premium - vials have been in storage since then. Unfortunately, I am unable to have children after a battery of tests over several months with my doctor. Does anyone out there in need of 12969? I understand he is sold out and very popular. I have 6 vials.
  • Any recent updates using this donor? We are fortunate that our 2nd IUI round worked and is progessing nicely. Due next June.
