I'm IN: Single and going for it!

I'm 37 and have decided that this is the route I am going to take. I am excited, but ready to enter into this new stage of my life. Luckily, I have a great support system, and won't really be doing this "alone". Still, I'm nervous. This isn't the way I pictured having a child, but I'm so grateful that this is available.

The plan: I plan losing some weight, and seeing my doc in August for the preconception appointment. I hope things go well. From then, I want to move full steam ahead!
Checklist
1. I'm already looking at the donors available.
2. I've started taking prenatal vitamins
3. Aug preconception app
4. Getting my body as prepared as possible with diet and exercise.
5. Trying NOT to freak out!
*What am I missing, ladies?*

I am so grateful that this is here, and I will be looking forward to getting advice and support from you all! Thank you in advance for the best wishes!

  • Sounds like you are on the right path and congrats on making the decision to move ahead!
  • AME I did acupuncture to help my body get ready for pregnancy. As for prenatal vitamins, I took Vitacrazes twice a day. They are gummy bears, but I never went on anything else. I have a healthy 6 month old. Good luck.
  • Welcome AME!

I read Making Babies by Dr Sami David which outlines a 3 month plan to get ready to try to conceive.

Charting my BBT for a few months was helpful in IDing a shorter luteal phase so we could work on that before trying.

I also agree with Anissa about acupuncture! Acupuncture and herbs have helped me tremendously in making shifts in my body and helped calm some of the more anxious moments.

    Good luck!
  • AME! I'm also thankful for this site! I am 38 and plan on doing IUI for the first time.
AnissaS, did you take meds, comic, trigger inj, etc? Just want to have the best possible outcome!
    Thanks
    Greta
  • Definitely start charting your cycle and testing for ovulation. I went to my first appointment in August and didn't do my first IUI until November because I had not charted beforehand. We realized in Sept and Oct that I don't ovulate. I have PCOS. I started meds in November and was finally able to have my first IUI. It took 6 tries but I finally got preg and now have a 3 month old daughter. Charting and knowing your cycle is super important. I just thought mine would be fine because I have my period every 28 days exactly. Had no clue that I don't ovulate.
  • Nurse Greta, I am an anomaly, getting pregnant right away. I took nothing. I did do acupuncture for a couple of months. I also just timed it right I guess. They did no trigger shots nothing. I just checked the LG Surge many times a day as you can surge any time. Good luck and if you have more questions let us know.
  • Thank you so much for the advise, ladies. I hadn't considered acupuncture, but I will absolutely try it!

Years ago, I was told that I had PCOS, based on an ultrasound. However, years after that I had another ultrasound, and there were no signs. I have always had a regular and normal period. I have not started to track ovulation, but I will do it starting this month!

I'm nervous, but excited to see what the universe has in the cards for me! I can't wait until I am ready to go. I've never wanted anything more.

    Blessings to us all!
  • BTW: I moved my preconception visit up to this coming Monday, instead of August. I figured it is best to know now how we will address issues, if there are any, because I don't want any "surprises" once I am ready to go!
  • AME all I can tell you is don't make a time table for what you think should happen. I thought I would be 5 months pregnant by now, but now I am going into my 5th IUI and 4th round with medication. I started back in August and it has taken a long time to get to where I am now. There were surprise issues, due to I have PCOS as well. I was getting normal periods but wasn't ovulating. So it is a good idea to have the preconception visit earlier.
  • AME, I think it's a great idea to move up your preconception visit. It's best to get everything figured out before you're ready to start. I thought I'd go in one day and come out pregnant weeks later. It is now 13 months later. I've only had 2 IUI's in those 13 months. I never even knew I had any problems since I have an 8 year old daughter. Even if I didn't have any problems my RE wanted to do some tests that took a couple of months to complete. Good luck on Monday and with your journey!
  • Thanks for the advice. I am excited about seeing the doctor, that way I can address any issues, but I am definitely leaving the timetable up to God. I feel like I can do what I can do. The doctor can do what he can do, but the rest is being left to the universe. With so many blessings in my life I just cannot ever complain. I want to be a mother. I believe I will be a mother, but my life is a win/win situation no matter what.

Thank you ladies. I will be updating on my journey. I look forward to keeping in touch AND getting advice and support.

Nisedm- Good luck on your journey. Baby dust!
    Becky- THANK YOU!
  • AME something that I found helpful is seeing an acupuncturist as well. I have been seeing one for years, and when I told him I wanted to get pregnant he helped me threw the journey. I still see him from time to time. I do take my LO and yesterday he slept through the entire process on my me. We both had a great nap. It was a wonderful experience.
  • I'll look into that!
  • Waiting on results from bloodworm and ultrasound. My doctor wants me to start sooner rather than later. When I mentioned my weight being a concern, he said he'd rather me lose weight after pregnancy than to wait, especially since I have no issues. This summer it is... God willing.
  • I'm having my first IUI this month--I understand all the emotions and appreciate everyone's thoughts and advice too!
    Liz
  • Good luck, Liz!!!! Please let me know how things progress!!!
    Baby dust!
  • AME you sound like me, in the beginning. Remember to keep your eye on the little one whose to come in the future. Everyone here knows what you'll be going through. Use us anytime. They have helped me tremendously. Good luck.
  • Thanks AME!
  • Went to the doctor today. I've had blood work AND ultrasound. NO PCOS. Everything looks great. I do have some small fibroids, but none that should impact fertility. I will be tracking my ovulation and in June I should be having my IUI. I'm feeling very spirit led right now. If it should be, it will be.
It's so refreshing to have others who don't even know me, wishing me the best on this journey!
  • AME, watch your cervical mucus. It gets thicker when you are getting ready to ovulate. Also if you are peeing on sticks, check several times a day starting at day 12. Supposedly the first urine of the day is no indication. Good luck.
  • AME,
I, too, will be having my first IUI in June. I am trying to get more "Zen" about all of this--like you. It is so hard not to worry. Happy to hear about your good news from the Dr.
  • I decided to go for it in Aug of 2011. I found out in that my tubes wer blocked. Once that was taken care of I was ready to move forward. I chose my donor and after 2 rounds of IVF, I was pregnant. I now have a beautiful baby girl and I do not regret any parts of it. Good luck on your journey!
