Newbies needing advice! 1st IUI in April

Hi everyone! I'm so glad I found these bulletin boards, what a great group!

My wife and I will be trying our first IUI in April. I honestly have no idea what I'm doing so any advice, tips, support, wisdom, etc is GREATLY appreciated!

So far I've done the bloodwork and ultra sound, everything looks good. I did the HSG and one tube "might" be blocked but my Dr. said we should continue with natural cycle for now. We've narrowed it down to 2 donors, can't really decide which one we like better. Can we order some of each?? Is that even a thing? lol

Now I'm just anxiously staring at the calendar hoping it will speed up to April so we can try! We don't really have a huge support system so I figured I'd try reaching out on here.

    Hi Sonnia. I was going thru the same a couple of months ago. I will share my story with you.

    I had HSG test and everything looked fine but I have PCOS and my period is not 100% regular.

    I think that picking a donor is not an ease process. Everyone expectations are different.
    You can order some of each.

    I ordered 5 vials of the same donor because my wife will be trying next and we wanted to secure the vials. I followed with the Dr. Lucky that I was during my cycle and the doctor asked to come for Ultra Sound on day 11 of my period. Within 2 weeks I went for ordering vials and having ultra sound every other day because I was not ovulating according to the cycle. I read so many stories that I asked the Dr. if I could take some medications. He advised was no. He also said to go for a natural cycle and depending on the results we will discuss further. Finally, the got a mature follicle, got a trigger shot the day before of the IUI.

    The IUI procedures is quite simple. I experienced a bit of cramping during the next few days but it was about it.

    After IUI, I would recommend to stay calmed an relaxed. The TWW (two weeks wait) is the most difficult process. The longest wait period ever. You go thru a roller coaster of emotions. If you are giving medication or trigger shot, you may experience pregnancy symptoms. I stayed reading many stories but you can't really rely on that because Everyone is different. I opted for not to test at home, but got tempted 2 days prior the schedule blood test. It came back with a faded positive line which I thought it was due to the trigger shot that could had still be on my system.

    Today, I had a blood test and came back positive. Super exciting yet I had no major symptoms. I even thought I was going to get my period due to the cramps I am still having. So good luck during the process and stay positive.

    Yay!! Congrats, that is so exciting!!! Thank you for sharing your story with me. I cannot wait to try. Everyone's been telling me that it most likely won't work on the first or second try. I'm hoping that it will anyways :)
    My doctor hasn't mentioned anything about a trigger shot so I'm not sure I'll be doing that even though I'd like to try anything that would increase my chances.
    I'm also wondering about when I'm supposed to schedule the iui. Do I call in the day the ovulation kit says high fertility or peak fertility? I don't want to miss my window.

    Thank you!! I was told that I may had to try a few times as well. I opted for remaining positive and which ever the outcome was to keep on trying. The Dr may do ultra sound during the fertility window to monitor the ovulation and mature follicles. My Dr considered a mature follicles once it was above 18cm. On the last ultra sound I had a mature one of 21 cm. He stated that others would develop and grow within 24 hrs. The same say I got the trigger shot and the IUI was scheduled for the next day.

    My Dr didn't mentioned the trigger shot until the same day I got it.

    Welcome SonniaMc! Our story goes a little like this. We went in for a consultation with the fertility doc and everything started the very following day. A month later we were trying our first insemination. So what our plan has been like is we go in on day 11 to see where our follicles are. We do this bc we didn't register on the ovulation predictor kits. So if the follicle is ripe then we trigger to induce ovulation then inseminate two days later. Our first insemination we did 1 insemination for the cycle. Our next two inseminations we did two inseminations to increase our chance. So we have done three rounds naturally with the assistance of a trigger. We are now going to meet with our doc and come up with a new plan. Most likely a medicated cycle to increase the number of follicles. Kind of scary to increase chance of twins or triplets. But if it gets us pregnant so worth it. We have done three cycles with one donor. We are changing donors when we start again in May. We weren't absolutely in love with our donor so looking for a new one isn't a big deal for us. Some people get really attached to their donor. We weren't. Looking forward to trying to find someone who we could see we could be friends with. Everyone's different with their donor. Hoping it's our time in May when we try again. Good luck. It's exciting. The two week waiting is killer though. But I'm hoping quick success for you.

    Thanks for sharing your story with me Elliejo! I had asked my doctor yesterday about a trigger shot after reading what Tarche wrote and today my nurse emailed me that my plan has changed to monitored cycle with Clomid and trigger shot. I talked to my wife and she is very firm on not wanting multiples. I'm not sure what to do. There's a chance for multiples but not a guarantee, so do we ignore the risk and try anyways?? Ahhh the stress :)
    I personally wouldn't mind having twins, but then again I'm the 'dreamer' and my wife is the 'realist'.

    What did you guys decide to do about meds? Our doc wanted us to do three unmedicated cycles before we did meds. We see our RE on 4/4 and will see the next plan which we are guessing are meds. We are okay with meds. Can't afford twins but if that is what we are blessed with we will make it work. So we will see.

    We decided to go ahead and try the meds. They reassured me that since it is monitored, the risk for multiples is low. I start clomid on day 5 of my next cycle (it'll be the first week or so in April).

    Welcome to the board! My wife and I have been on and off trying for about two years. We both have tried, and she will be starting again in April. I did three iuis and she did 4 with one back to back iui, but insurance only counts it as one for one cycle. She has two more iuis before insurance will cover invitro.
