Donor Switch

Hello CCB,

I have had 3 failed, unmedicaded IUI attempts. I am 29, and healthy; my husband doesn't produce sperm.

After 3 failed attempts, I felt compelled to change some things.

This 4th round I was given Ovidrel and am currently taking proesterone supplements, and also switched donors. Have you found in the past that there is success just by switching to a different donor?

    It takes an average of 3-4 IUI cycles to achieve pregnancy.

    Even natural reproduction can take time. The American Society for Reproductive Medicine reports that "Each month that she tries, a healthy, fertile 30-year-old woman has a 20% chance of getting pregnant."

    All CCB donors go through our stringent screening process and are capable of contributing to a pregnancy. (Less than 1% of applicants actually make it into our donor program.)

    There is no scientific evidence that indicates switching donors will increase the chance of success. However, switching from unmedicated cycles to medicated cycles is a different story. There are a variety of options for IUI treatments and different ways to monitor your cycle. It's important to discuss with your physician which course of treatment is best for you.

    Hi herkellcor-
    Just some info for you from my story- my husband also makes no sperm and I am about to go into the 6th cycle of IUI- I am also healthy 29 year old- we switched donors on this last (5th) cycle- and it didnt work still- so we are going back to the original one- we liked him better anyways- stick to your gut. Its a very discouraging process- trust me I am with you!! I have had 2 medicated cycles so far and am now switching from Letrozole to Clomid- and doing progesterone supps this time also just to see.     Hi! I am sorry to just be seeing this! Thank you for the kind words. We have had no success after our 4th attempt... we did a trigger shot and progesterone supps last time. I don't think I'll do the progesterone again, what a pain! I have never heard of another person in our position and would love to stay in touch for moral support, if you'd like?

    We too are using a donor due my husband not producing sperm. We have done 2 IUIs so far. With both, I took Tomoxifen (alternate to clomid. I have no known fertility issues but I just think doc wanted to heighten our chances due to having to use a donor and cost because our insurance covers nothing). First cycle, my progesterone wasn't high enough (tested a week after IUI) so I had to use suppositories. Turned out to be a BFN. Second cycle gave us our first BFP but didn't have to take progesterone (switched to pills due to cost) until after preg test came back. Unfortunately now I am currently miscarrying with this second cycle. I clicked on this topic because my husband and I decided we may want to switch donors if we miscarry any future BFP.
