Choosing between an IUI and an ICI sample...

I'm trying to get pregnant with an IUI at my doctors office, for sure.

My clinic as part of the standard practice washes the sample after thawing it -- this is also include in a package price that I already pay. They are willing to not wash it, if I order an IUI sample. Given that information, does it make more sense for me to order an ICI sample because it's cheaper and has more motile sperm?

Can you give me any information to help me think through it?

    Excellent question! One thing to keep in mind is that during the washing process, some motile sperm will be lost. It is unknown what the count will be post-wash and we only guarantee the count of motile sperm for ICI vials post-thaw.

    With the IUI vials, you have a guaranteed count of at least 10 million motile sperm post-thaw.

    Try not to stress out too much about the numbers, as research shows that IUIs with donor sperm exceeding 5 million motile sperm does not increase pregnancy rates.

    We understand that this whole process has a price tag, so it's best to do what's right for you. If this is your first IUI, please keep in mind that on average it takes about 3-4 IUIs to achieve pregnancy. Of course we hope that it happens on the first try, but it's important to plan ahead, just in case.

    Thanks for the information. This is actually my second IUI. For my first one, I ordered an IUI sample from you guys, and the post thaw numbers were well under 10 million. I know that these things take time, and I'm not too stressed about that part. But, I also want to avoid that if possible moving forward.

    The first time, I only ordered 1 vial, but this time I plan to order 3 (to save money on shipping, receiving fees at my clinic, and because my subscription is running out). It feels like the stakes are a little bit higher.

    In any case, thanks for the information. I'm sure it will be fine either way.
