Two partners trying to conceive at the same time? Anyone tried? Succeeded?

My partner and I have been tossing around the idea for awhile now about both trying to conceive simultaneously. I'm 39--closer to 40--and she's 34--closer to 35. We thought we'd start with me because of my decrepit age and we've done 5 cycles now with me (only 1 of which was with frozen sperm--the other 4 were turkey baster style with a known donor).

We just feel like the risk of it becoming harder for her while we're waiting for me is too great.

Anyone else in this position? Anyone else try? May seem crazy, but we're excited--if we both get lucky, then twins it is! :)

    Cool idea, will you use the same sperm donor? Reduces the risks of a twin pregnancy... while getting two babes at once. I saw a Grays Anatomy episode where they did this. Although it was two best friends and not lesbians, they used the same sperm donor so the kids could be sibling.

    Yes, same donor, so they share half their genes. Slightly concerned about ending up with triplets...

    But it really would suck to have us wait for the older one to get pregnant only to end up with fertility issues for the younger.

    Her mom keeps saying "The more the merrier," but she's 3000 miles away, so it's easy to contemplate.

    We have considered this idea. I'm 36 with children from a previous relationship and my spouse is 33.
    I am just so concerned about our ability to successfully run a household and support each others emotional and physical needs. Especially in the later months and even around delivery- what in the world would we do if both went at the same time!

    I really want her to experience the "special" feeling of our pregancy. Basically me getting to tend to her :)

    So for now we're on our second attempt with just her trying to get a positive result.

    I suppose there is the ignorance of bliss at play, as neither of us has had children before. It's all theoretical until suddenly we need extra birth coaches in a back-to-back delivery. We'd expected that there would be months in between, but there's always the chance that it'd work for both of us in the same exact month. Terrifying. I do like the real plus of co-parenting with another nursing mother. ;)
