How many IUI's before IVF?

I am 41 and have had 3 IUI's using clomid. The clomid made my walls too thin, so now i am trying it naturally with just the ovidrel shot. The first time i tried it this way i got pregnant, but had a chemical pregnancy, so i lost it at 4 weeks 2 days. How many more should i try before I move to IVF. My insurance does not cover any of this.

Thoughts?

    I got pregnant at 42 with no medication. All I did was pee on a stick and call my doctor when I had the LG Surge, so it depends on where you are at financially and emotionally What does your doctor say?

    I am now 30 plus weeks pregnant and cannot believe the incredible journey.

    Wow Anissa that is great! It still gives me some hope. I'm 42 and headed for IUI #7 soon. Congrats!

    nriley, good luck. Yes positive thoughts. What I tell everyone, I had an acupuncture appt the day I was inseminated and the stars just aligned. Are you on meds to or just surges. I was also inseminated back to back days. Good luck and keep us up to date.

    I got pregnant on IUI #6. It was my 2nd medicated cycle. IUI is covered by my insurance but not IVF, so I wanted to stick with it as long as possible.

    eeh so nice that yours was covered by insurance. Mine was not. Maybe that is why I went the route I did.

    Thank you guys so much for answering. eeh876 thanks for the good info. That was great that your insurance covers it, mine covers nothing. Therefore, i am trying to stick to the IUI's. A positive on your sixth makes me want to at least try a few more.

    Anissa - congrats on your pregnancy. That is so wonderful and must be scary all at the same time. I am also doing acupuncture and started it right before #4 - when i got pregnant. So i really believe in it.

    It has now been 4 days since my chemical pregnancy and wondering when i am going to get my period so i can start again.....

    I got my positives on tries #5 (miscarriage) and then try #6. I was actually going to switch to IVF if #6 didn't work. My reasoning was also insurance related. My insurance covers infertility, but only covers IVF after 6 months of proven infertility. It's hard to prove infertility as a single person, so 6 IUIs would have done the trick. I had actually already met with the IVF dr and we had mapped a plan during my 2WW, just in case. I didn't want to have to wait a month, so we were ready to go in case this IUI did not work. Luckily, we did not need that plan. And I am so blessed to work for a company that covers this. If my insurance did not cover IVF, there is no way I could have afforded it, so I would have never switched over. I would have went the adoption route instead.
