Third IUI Failure

Well good old Aunt Flow decided to make an appearance last night, thus ending my third TWWW. So I'm at a crossroads. Do I give up, and just assume my 38 year old body is too old for this stuff? Do I take a month off and try again next month? Or do I need to do another cycle? Any proof that consecutive is better than a brief break? The money tree has gone dry and insurance won't cover til' six failed IUI attempts. I'm halfway there. Help! I need advice, encouragement... something.

    Well Pugmama... you sure pulled at my heartstrings. So, what a journey this manages to be huh... I am so sorry you are feeling defeated. Its is totally understandable. Last year my partner and I had 3 failed ICI attempts and that too was a kick in the stomach.. due to unrelated circumstance we stopped for some time and now are back on the journey. Don't give up. Think about the means to the end love...there is an amazing purpose to all of this that in the end will make every heartache, every crossroad, and every 'failure' worth the success... I am 41.. my partner is 39... You are not too old for anything.. I am the one attempting to carry and won't give up hope keeping in mind the end result... it will be heartbreaking.. but keep going, don't give up on what you want... we are right here for you.. thru the up's and the down's.. What does your RE say? Is everything in working order? Maybe explore other options? where you at? Re-evaluate, explore, educate and empower yourself.. You got this... :o) Loads of baby wishes on your doorstep honey... get up and get back on the ride...

    I appreciate the support. I know in my heart, I'm not ready to give up... it's the wallet that isn't being quite as supportive. If were up to just me, I'd throw it onto my credit card or try and get a medical loan. But my wife, who's younger and has a little more time than I do, is much more practical and doesn't want me/us to go into debt over this. I really didn't want to be part of the statistic... but it seems I am. I will definitely try again, just may wait a month or so. Good luck to you.

    Pug - before you started your IUI processes, did you have ALL the diagnostic testing to make sure everything was working right? HSG, lab work, make sure there's no polyps etc?

    Don't be discouraged. Remember, the AVERAGE success is 4 IUI's. What drugs are you taking? Do you have medical history?

    My wife and I got our BFP on actual IUI 3 attempt, however, we had 2 cancelled cycles before that.

    My wife is 36, only has one ovary, has PCOS (thats why one was removed) and has the PCOS on the remaining ovary. She had to have polyps removed on her uterus before we got started. Then our RE started us on clomid 50mg, that didn't work...the follicles just shrunk - after 3 US to decide the cycle wasn't going to lead to mature follicles/ovulation (i think it was like CD15ish or so maybe CD17) they immediately started us on 100mg of clomid. That too ended the same but this time they stopped the cycle after the first US on CD12, saying the follies were just too small and there was no point in continuing. This time they forced ovulation/AF with drugs. After that they started us on 150mg of clomid (I was pissed cuz clomid is proven to not work as good with PCOS - so I decided we were going to take 200mg because if that didn't work we were going to refuse to take clomid again - we had an extra clomid prescription - also we have 3 RE dr's in our office, our dr wanted to do injectables with the 3rd cycle but the one we saw that day said "ah you haven't maxed out clomid till you get to 250mg so we will keep trying clomid" like I said I was pissed so I up'ed the dose on our own) SO we did 200mg for three days then 150 2 days. We had a 30mm follie (again we didn't see OUR RE, we saw a different one for this appt) and that RE said this follie was just fine (our RE disagree'd later and said it was a wasted cycle) so we did our first IUI...had a great lining too. Ok so that didn't work. Went back in for baseline US and it was the 3rd RE Dr, and he said oh the 150mg worked..blah blah so we will try it again...UGHHHHHHHHHHH we were actually hopeful cuz at this point we didn't know our RE thought the 30mm was too big. ANyways, so we did 200mg clomid for 2 days and 150 last 3 days again and had 3 mature follies...but our lining was 6.9 which isn't good. So that was failed IUI 2. FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!! The 3rd RE mentioned changing us to femara (we didn't want that because it aims to produce 1 mature follie...we are greedy and wanted more) so he suggested we do bravelle/clomid hybrid. We still self medicated 200mg clomid first 2 days, 150 next 3 days then 4 days of bravelle injections. The bravelle helps with the lining (which clomid thins...) and it also helps produce higher quality and more follies. It increases prego chances by 5-10%. So we had 4 mature follies and one that was borderline at 14, lining was GREAT...everything was great! Inseminated and got prego! (Thank GOD with only 1!!!)

    So the point of all this is, It is OUR opinion that if you create a PERFECT situation - good size egg, great lining and good timing (with trigger we inseminated 38 hrs later) you increase your chances automatically!!! But from our research, EVERYONE who has done the hybrid cycle with bravelle has gotten a BFP on their first cycle with it.....

    So maybe you should talk to your RE about that?????????????? We paid all out of pocket too, and our bank ran dry on our last cycle as well. Don't give up, your not too old, just change it up!!!!!
