  My partner has always had a very timely cycle (28 days-she could almost predict to the minute when she would start her period). We tracked her BBT for 4-5 cycles prior to trying to conceive and she always ovulated on the night of the 14th day. Well, last month was our first time ttc and our RE warned us that it could be delayed due to the anxiety/stress but we doubted her b/c she was always so regular however she didn't get a smilely until cycle day 16 and ovulated on cycle day 17. Her cycle was 31 days. I've heard ttc can do some crazy things to our bodies perhaps it will come in the next day or so.

  Hi! I have found that I need to test for ovulation every 4 hours during the possible days of ovulation. Usually I get a smiley face in the morning but the 1st month I did my IUI I had no read at 8am, got a smiley face at noon that day then by 5pm I checked again (just out of curiosity) and did NOT get a read. I was surprised to find out how short the LH surge window can be.....hope that helps! I had been concerned that I was not ovulating regularly. I am now testing several times a day during the window.

  Thank you both for your responses - they helped me feel better. I will try testing multiple times a day this month and see what happens. And NE, I agree that the stress can throw off our cycles - this month I was 32 days which is longer than it has ever been before!

  Which cycle day should you start opk testing? What would the window be? Can anyone help me with this. I'm going to use OPK testing this next time in conjuction with the injectibles and trigger shot I get. I feel my RE does IUI too early after trigger-24hrs. I want to have more of an assurance that I can test if I'm actually ovulating yet.

  Gsalsa - the trigger shot gives you a false positive on the OPK so it's pointless to do it prior. We do OPK starting 3 or so days before our D12 US, but it's ALWAYS negative because of Tommie's PCOS - her body refuses to naturally ovulate.

  So if the trigger shot gives a false positive then you're say it won't be accurate to see if I'm actually ovulating after the trigger?
  
  But I can test prior to trigger shot to be safe and assure myself that I don't ovulate beforehand and then call RE if I do? I think my RE was suggesting that if I go out of town on my D10 US, I can use OPK to know when to use trigger.

  Correct, you can test prior to the trigger. We tested morning and night OPK before. We also tested after JUST to see if we got the falst positive....guess we felt better seeing the positive because you are supposed to get it. You also get false positives on the prego tests. We did that too just to see if it gave us the positive. The first time we took the trigger we didn't get the false positive on the OPK and felt that something wasn't right (Our RE said it wasn't a big deal but we felt it was...I dunno) Anyways, so Trigger gives false positive on OPK and Pregnancy test.
  
  We do an US on D12 and also do an LH level bloodwork (ours is usually super low - no chance of ovulating) so once those come back (later that day) they tell us to do the trigger...if by some miracle they came back showing she would surge on her own our RE would wait for her to surge rather than trigger.

  Oh ok thanks. Another thing I'm seeing is it seems like most get the IUI done towards D14-D16. I had my last US on D10 and IUI on D12. I believe I count from D3 when we had 1st baseline US. It seems like mine was done earlier in the cycle. I was on injectibles but I guess I'm just so nervous and obsessing if my Dr is the best fit. We have a speciliaty clinic nearby but its about $400 more and we're already trying to spend a lil more to have back to backs. I'm just wondering if Kaiser is a speciality place especially since my Dr does IUI's early too at 24hrs after trigger. I hate this..not being sure.

  I did some researching on when to use the OPK's. Several sites indicated that it is very hard for the kits to detect an LH surge in the first urine of the morning.
  
  "•Follow the manufacturer's instructions about the time to take your OPK. First morning urine is usually not the best for OPKs since your LH surge usually begins in early morning when you are still sleeping and may not be apparent in your first morning urine. If you test in the early morning, you may miss your surge entirely since LH levels may already be reduced by the next morning. Late morning or early afternoon is usually best unless the instructions suggest otherwise."
  
  Also, you MUST have at least 4 hours of urine stored before using the kits for it to accurately detect the surge. It is suggested that the urine is concentrated, so heavy liquid intake is discouraged when testing (and it makes it harder to hold your urine for at least 4 hours).
  Last but not least, it is recommended to test at the same time every day with the best test times being from 10:00am-8:00pm.
