I'm new to ALL of this. My husband and I were trying for two years when the light bulb went on that something might be wrong. We found out he had a gentic defect and after the shock wore off, we knew sperm donation was for us.

Anyway, how much should we expect to pay and how do most people pay for all the costs?

    Welcome to ccb family!
    When it comes to the cost there are few things to consider:
    1. medical care -will your insurance cover those procedures?
    2. based on your fertility situation-medicated or non medicated IUI-you will need fund for medications.
    3. how many cials will you purchase- most people purchase at least 6.

    I just made my first purchase of IUI premium today, 3 vials. It came to just under $1,800 but that does not include shipping which will be an additional $175. My RE told me that the average success at his office is 3 or 4 vials so that's what I went with. My RE also stores short term for free and long term MUCH cheaper per year than CCB. If you go that route, you can't sell the vials back though because they can't leave CCB to do that.

    Good question and thanks for the advice. I am new to this process as well. I am doing this solo and really just started reseaching the purchasing process of sperm vials and fertility meds. I have already been told by my RE that she recommends fertility meds (injections) for an aggressive approach due to my age (41)and other medical factors. I know fertility meds are very costly. Can anyone share thier experiences or research they have done with online pharmacies in the U.S. ?? Are they really cheaper? I have NO idea?

    We would like to know about cheaper pharmacies as well. My partner and I are going to start trying next month hopefully and because my partner is 36, our RE is wanting to be aggressive...but we are still a little unsure of what to expect especially in terms of what the percent success there is with all the fertility drugs and cycle monitoring etc when the female has no known fertility issues.

    I started the process at 37 and became pregnant after the 3rd try.

    Donor #1 medicated IUI no success
    Donor #1 IVF (tons of shots...) no success

    Switched donors to one I knew had multiple births and became pregnant 1st try unmedicated IUI.

    My thoughts are choose a donor who has a really good success rate. It will save you a lot of money down the road. I have 4 vials left from the first donor just sitting at my doctor's office.

    It was a waste to purchase all 6. I only purchased 2 of my second choice and used both and became pregnant.

    If money is an issue which for most it will be then really ask questions about who you choose. With a strong donor and no fetility issues it might be best to try unmedicated IUI's a few rounds but you have to go with what your gut tells you.

    My advice is that you should do what your RE recommends. They are the professionals who have the education and knowledge and this is what they do. I totally trusted my RE.

    I am 40 yrs old, purchased 12 vials of my donor choice because I wanted to make sure 100% that I would have enough to do whatever was necessary and possibly even have enough for a sibling. I got 3 yrs free storage with that purchase. I took Clomid 100mg cd 5-9 and did back to back IUIs (using 2 vials/cycle) and after my 3rd unsuccessful IUI this way....my RE changed my meds to Femara 5mg cd3-7 and only did 1 IUI, 1 vial because I was already down to 6 vials. I AM PREGNANT!

    My true advice on cost....make sure if you find a wonderful donor as I did and really really liked his entire profile, oh...also got to know other women using/used him, buy as many as you can.

    Don't bother doing the back to back IUI. THe success rate does not improve as per my brilliant RE and it's so much cheaper to do one.

    My first try was about 1700.00 for everything. I had to pay out of pocket for everything. I used Ultrasound, Clomid, HCG shot. I also had some blood tests. I am 33 and dont have any fertility issues that i know of.
