Time away from work?

Hi ladies :o)

To those of you who have already completed an IUI--- how much time is expected to take away from work? Is it something done the day of ovulation only? Ovulation day and a couple days afterwards? Do you have to purchase more than one vial so that you can have more inseminations?

Sorry -- I just haven't reached this stage yet. I still have to wait about 20 days before any of my preliminary testing can be done (FSH, etc).

It's just that I have patients who scheduled time with me 1-2 months in advance and I'm curious how many of them I may have to end up cancelling.

    Well, the insemination takes only a few minutes so time off from work is not needed although it depends on your clinic or doctor and how they plan on going about things. Some people test their own urine and when they get a positive opk, they go in to get their IUI and others get a shot to induce ovulation and then go in for the IUI 2 days later. Some doctors do only one IUI with 1 vial per cyce and others do back to back, the second on the next day after the 1st using 2 vials. You should just see your RE and discuss the plan, everyone is different but as far as going right back, it's fine. I am an ER nurse and went back to work the same day.

    As far as purchasing vials, if you find a donor that you really like, you should plan on buying several. It also depends on your age as to how many cycles you will prob go through although that varies too. I am 40 yrs old, all tests perfect and I am now about to find out about my 3rd attempt. What do you do for work? I would prob think that you should just wait until the actual time comes and cancel last minute if needed.
