partner in Birth certificate

I though you may have some advise for me.
I am pregnant and I have question about how to include my partner or second mother in my child's birth certificate here in Washinton (not DC)?
Does she has to adopt before born or just sign the birth certificate at the hospital or wait until some time after the baby is born? Does it matter if is
a Known or unknown donor?is it necesary to hire a lawyer?
Many friends have told us is easier in California and that would involve me to deliver there.
I am confuse I do not know what to do.
Please help!

    I don't live in Washington and things may have changed in the last 3 years but a friend of ours had a baby with her partner in Washington and the partner was not able to be put on the birth certificate until after the adoption was finalized. California is a lot easier as we just needed to show proof of our domestic partnership and I was able to be put on the birth certificate as our sons father (they don't change the verbage) I am legally his parent in California but I still have to adopt him to be recognized as a parent elsewhere. I would definitely consult an attorney in your area.

    Congradulations!

    I would strongly advise consulting a family attorney in Washington. Laws vary by state and often change without much attention. The admin office at the hospital you are planning to deliver may be able to give you some information or a referral.

    THANK YOU!! after talking about it; we have deceided to deliver here in Washington and then my partner will have to adopt our baby to make it legal in all the country.
