starting the process

After wanting to have a baby for years, i decided a few months ago to have an iui done using donor sperm. I am 38 years old and have irregular cycles due to PCOS. My appointment with the infertility doctor is in september and i am super excited. I am so thankful for this message board because it is comforting to hear other people with my problem speak about their issues.
I have the support of my family and close friends ,who were super accepting of my decision and cant wait for my dream to become a reality.
I decided to have the proceedure done when i am away on vacation for a month. My question is is this going to be enough time for this? I have done all my preliminary testing, blood work ,HSP, Pevlvic ultrsoud,pap,etc. and i am on day three of provera and due to start clomid 50mg to regulate my cycle. im hoping to have atleast two cycles before my appointment in September so i can know if the clomid works for me before i go. This is all my planning as my local ob/gyn knows my intent but is not familiar with the proceedure.What do i do now??Oh and i have already selected my donor 11937,is there anything im missing or any other information you guys can share? thanks for your time!

    From my experience, the process takes some time. I had just a few minor issues that have been regulated. I started the process the end of May and had my first IUI June 29. Had there been a positive result, then it would have been just about 5-6 weeks total.
    I am a school teacher and planned on becoming pregnant over the summer. It isn't working within the timeframe I had hoped for, but everyone's situation is different.
    I realize that we can only plan so much and then the rest is up to a higher being. Whatever you believe in. :)

    Goodluck with your journey. The end result is a baby so try and look at what you're doing this for.

    Congrats on making the decision to start the process. My experience with the fertility clinic was pretty basic. On my first visit I basically said I wanted to be a single mother with donor sperm. I have PCOS as well but with regular periods due to BCP( I've been off since NOV. and still regular). My doctor started me on Femara which is similar to clomid but seems to work well for PCOS patients. My bloodwork came back fine so the doc told me to call when my period started. I took femara on day 3-7, had an ultrasound on day 10, an HCG shot to stimulate ovulation on day 12 and my IUI in the office roughly 28 hours later. That is the most basic process I think assuming there are good size follicle(s) on ultrasound. Mine didn't work the first time but I will be trying again next month. It's really helpful to keep track of what's going on with your body. I use fertility friend online (free) to chart my periods. it seems to help. Consider buying a Basal Body Thermometer to keep track of your temperature as well. It can help see an ovulatory pattern. Good luck with your process and I certainly hope it is successful.

    thank you nbound and nriley for your encouragement!!.I think this site is so cool because you get to talk to persons with simular issues as yourself. I dont even know anyone who has PCOS personally.But its not like i go around voicing the fact publicly. Nriley ive been reading that clomid doesnt usually work on patients withs pcos. i am currently on day six of seven of provera and i am scheduled to start clomid on day five of my cycle. I am wondering if i should just ask my doc to give me femara instead if it does the same as the clomid.? He is giving it to me to regularize my cycle.
    Im going to a specialist to have my iui done in september so i was checking out the clomid to see if it will give me good follicles so i can use it for my proceedure.

    i have pcos and I will be taking Femara instead of clomid. I do see a fertility specialist and they will be doing my iui on the 5th and the 6th of aug.

    I'm no expert but from what I understand Femara is very effective with PCOS, which also incidentally is common in about 20% of women, and does not remain in your system as long as clomid reducing the risk of it affecting the baby. I guess every doctor has a different feeling on medication. I also did not experience any side effects from Femara as I am told come with Clomid. I was able to produce 3 good follicles with Femara before my IUI. It is certainly worth questioning a fertility expert who is very familiar with the process.
