Hi All! Just started the process of seeing the fertility specialist and searching for a donor. 36 y/o and single. Any tips or suggestions?

Thanks so much!

  • Expect the unexpected. The process can be long or short depending on you fertility issues. For donors if you buy the service to see full profiles pick more than one donor. It might be more than three months to get preggers, and your original donor could be taken.
  • Don't get caught up with one donor and buy tons of vials. I made that mistake. Get a blood test to see if you are CMV positive or not. If you aren't positive some drs will only want you to choose CMV negative donors. I would try with a donor only twice before moving on. Although there may be no true scientific reason except maybe chemistry this board is full of people who used a donor multiple times had no pregnancy switched donors and became pregnant immediately. I followed advice after three negatives, tried a new donor, got a negative and tried a third donor and got preg. Unfortunately miscarried but trying again. Also don't panic if it doesn't happen in the first few tries. Don't go right to ivf. My drs office says 6 chances and I got pregnant on number 5. Oh yeah and get acupuncture for fertility it makes a big difference.
  • Does acupuncture really make all the difference? I haven't tried that yet.
  • Supposedly it does. My friend's RE insists she do it before and after every insemination and she got pregnant twice and she is 42. My other friend was trying for a year and after one acupuncture session she was pregnant. I went a lot and I did get pregnant eventually.
  • Thanks so much! My doctor has already prescribed my blood work, but I have to wait for my next period. His recommendations were CMV negative, postive pregnancies and IUI for possible donors. It is really hard to figure out which donor! I have had accupunture before for other reasons and she always told me that accupuncture makes you more fertile! So once I find out my CMV status I will settle on a donor. Good Luck to all who are trying :)
  • Nisedm I am a strong supporter of acupuncture. I have been doing it for years. I feel that my acupuncturist was able to get me pregnant really fast considering I was 42 when I got pregnant. We started prepping my body about 4 months before I started. If nothing else, it helps relax you and focuses the body's energy on what is needed. Good luck.
  • I'm going to tag onto this post, what does TWW and RE and dpiui (days post iui?) / all of the random acronyms that I'm seeing around mean?
