Femara?

I was just wondeing if anyone has used Femara. The new doctor I am going to, who I really like, prescribes Femara instead of Clomid. I know that Clomid can have a lot of side effects, but I just read something about Femara and birth defects. Though I will probably need injectables, I would like to try one cycle on Clomid or Femara first. Any experiences or information would be appreciated!

  • I used femara for 4 IUIs. Then I moved up to Femara days 3-7 and injectibles days 8-10. That was the combo that worked for me. As far as birth defects, I am not sure. My little girl does have some breathing issues, but she was born at 23 weeks due to my incompetent cervix. I attribute all her needs to extreme prematurity rather than femara. And considering her gestationsal stage at birth, she's extremely healthy. She is still on oxygen but it's very low flow and she has reflux. She has no other issues. And those are both very common in premature babies. I also had no side effects from femara. It was pretty easy on my body.
  • austingurl,
Thanks for the information. You are so lucky that your little girl is ok. being born so early. How old is she now? I am going to ask my doctor about the possibility of the combination you used, as that seems like it might be less expensive than all injectables.
  • McKinlee is 4 mos now. Had she been born on her due date, she would be 3 weeks. She's amazing. She's already rolling over. And she should be off oxygen in 4-6 weeks. And yeah, just a few days of injectables was more affordable. My dr called it a "boost". We would have progressed to more had it not worked but didn't need more.
  • It's pretty common from what I've read to use Femara. Some women don't respond to Clomid but will to Femara. A TTC/Infertilty formum that I visit a lot has several women who say they wish their doc had gone straight to Femara and that it should really be the first protocol.
