over 40

Hi Scott,
I posted a few times and the posts seemed to get lost...at least to me! Here are my questions:
What would you say the average # of IUI attempts for women over 40?
What do you think about a second attempt 24 hrs later if my clinic isn't available 12 hrs later?
If I've tried 4 times and am still not pregnant, should I consider an HSG? I'm concerned about asking my clinic because I think they want to make as much money off me as possible and push all of the tests.
What are the chances of multiples births with a clomid/iui cycle? so far I'm doing it naturally as I seem to be producing at least one follicle per cycle.
Thanks so much!!

I answered your earlier questions in previous posts.
In terms of the extra tests your clinic is offering, I think you need to trust your physician. Granted they make money with the tests, but their tests and protcal exist because they believe it leads to the best chances of a successful pregnancy. A fertility specialist's goal is to get you pregnant regardless of the cost. While this is not necessarily a realistic approach for most of us, it is what we are asking them to do.
The recommendations you have mentioned are well within the norm considering your age, but if you are genuinely concerned about being taken advantage of you should always seek a second professional opinion. You can even ask a nurse of IVF coordinator if there is another doctor in the clinic you can consult with just to be sure.
Good luck,
Scott
