Marriage equality has been expanding across the globe at a rapid pace, and you know what they say: First comes love, then comes marriage, then comes a baby in a baby carriage!
As lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender relationships become more accepted, so do our family units, and we're very likely to see more and more LGBT parents in the future. Because of this, Eric Rosswood (author of the marriage equality children's book, My Uncle's Wedding) is creating a book where LGBT people share their experiences regarding their journey to parenthood and raising children in a LGBT household. He's currently looking for people in the LGBT community who have gone through different avenues of parenthood, such as adoption, foster care, surrogacy, co-parenting, etc. This book is being created to help people in the LGBT community who are planning on becoming parents in the future.
Eric feels that it's important for these stories to come from the people who experienced them, so he is looking for each couple to write their own piece in their own words. The format will be similar to Chicken Soup for the Soul where the book will be filled with a bunch of short stories from various people. Your piece can be long or short depending on how much you want to write, probably somewhere around 5-20 pages give or take. All submissions must beturned in by February 28th, 2014.
Eric is mainly interested in stories on your journey to parenthood, including your decision to become a parent and what avenue you took. What were your challenges? What were the highs and lows of your journey? How did you and the baby adjust? Where are you now and what great things happened along the way?
Eric is open to including other stories as well. Here are a few other ideas for what you can write about:
· Challenges you had that are specific to being a LGBT parent.
· LGBT parenting in a multi-racial household.
· Funny stories relating to you being a LGBT parent.
· Uplifting LGBT parenting experiences.
· Your most memorable LGBT parenting experience.
As payment for contributing, each couple (or person if you are a single parent) whose story is chosen to be included in the book will receive 5 free copies when it's published to give to friends and family members. If this sounds like something you would be interested in doing, please let Eric know by sending him an email. He can be reached at eric92106@gmail.com.
