Success with one tube open?

Hi All,

I am wondering if I should go forward with my plans to get pregnant on my own. Last week I went for my HSG and found out that my right fallopian tube is blocked, but left is open. I have enough follicles on my left ovaries and my left fallopian tube is open. What I want to know, are there any women who have been successful getting pregnant using IUI with 1 tube? I am concerned that I may be trying to make something that realistically may not happen for me going this route. I am 39, single and I don't access to fresh sperm.

What do you think ladies??

Thanks for your input!

  • Hi Lecee,
I just found out that only my right tube is working properly. There's some weirdness with the left - it filled with dye but didn't spill out, but during a laparoscopy (when they tried again and it did the same thing), they were able to pass a probe through with no problem. Weird, huh?

Anyway, the doc said I can definitely still try unmedicated, just the best option is to monitor and wait till I'm going to ovulate on the right side. She said it's unclear if the left one will work, so she'd rather not waste my money (since I, also, don't have access to fresh, free sperm).

SO.. I'm not pregnant yet, but definitely trying and very optomistic.

(I also have a dear friend who got pregnant on her own with only one working tube - it took forever, but it happened without meds. Granted, she has a husband and probably greatly enjoyed all the trying...) :)

    Good luck!!
  • Hi Abby,

thanks for your response .. I am still investigating my options because as you rightly noted it is an expense. Have a dr appt in a few wks to get further advice as to how to proceed. Maybe I will check out the laparoscopy to see if if with a probe it works.

Anyhow I wish you luck, too!

  • I got pregnant with only one tube with IUI but I used a RE and went the route you would go for IVF w/o the IVF, took meds, monitored follicles and timed iui accordingly knowing my right side was a loss each cycle. My journey to my son was chemcial pregnancy my first try a few negatives, a positive that ended in miscarriage 8 weeks later and then my pregnancy with my son on my 3 iui after the miscarriage :)

    Good Luck!!
