Help!!! LH Surge

I know everyone is different, but if my cycle is 28 days my CD 1 was the 25th of Feb, my doctor told me to start checking my surge on the 11th day, which by the way is today March 8th. However, I cannot stop but wonder, in normal circumstances, when should a person with a typical cycle of 28 days should see a possitive LH surge? 12th, 13th or 14th?
Thanks.

  • HI Dane1122!!

Welcome to the boards!! You and I have very similar CDs. I have a 27 day cycle, which started Feb 21. My Fertility Specialist suggested that I start testing on day 10 (March 2). I got a positive LH Surge on March 6th (CD14) and inseminated the following morning (March 7). I'm now in the dreaded 2WW.

In my original calculation, I thought I'd get a positive OPK on March 5th (CD13), but it didn't happen until the next day. Just remember that everyone is different. But I think, in a perfect world, an + LH Surge would occur on CD14 for someone with a 28 day cycle.

However, in a perfect world, we would all conceive on our first try, right?

I'd love to be your cycle buddy, if you don't have one already!!

Best of luck and TONS of baby dust to you!!!
  • Thanks chaveece!!! you are right...we are all praying for a perfect world :-). There is something I still don't get. I thought you should get the surge 24 to 36 hrs before ovulation, meaning if my cycle is 28 days, I should then ovulate on CD 14 and that would get me a surge on CD 13 right?
Changing subject...I never thought I would be so happy to see the amount of cervical mucus I've been releasing since this morning. My Mom just saw me playing with it trying to figure out its elasticity. I had to explain that was a good sign of fertility.
I definetely would love to be your buddy as well, since we'll be just a week apart. Lots and lots of baby dust to you as well.
  • I just wanted to say that you can never tell for sure when you're going to get your LH surge. I normally have a 27 - 29 day cycle, and I've gotten my surge as early as day 12 and as late as day 15!!! Usually I will get a positive on day 13 or 14, though.

For instance, this month I got my first positive OPK on the evening of Day 13; and then I got my thermal shift on Day 15, so I ovulated on Day 14, even though the OPK didn't turn positive until late in the day on day 13. The month before, I got a positive in the morning on Day 13, but again got my thermal shift on Day 15, so I still ovulated on Day 14 even though the surge showed up just a bit earlier than it did this month. This is why my doctor does two back to back IUIs, the day of the first positive OPK and the day after.

My husband and I are not trying now, but will be next month, for Baby #2. We have a beautiful daughter, so we are proof that this can work! Good luck!
  • Thanks for sharing your story. I think what I'll be doing is checking twice a day, at noon and then around 8 PM starting tomorrow, so I don't miss it.
  • dane1122,

I guess you would be right about a + OPK on CD13 and ovulation occurring on CD14 for that perfect 28 day cycle example. But there are so many variables. This hypothetical scenario definitely isn't the norm.

Your CM story was hysterical!! Thanks for the laugh. Oh, the wonderful world of TTC...LMAO! Yes, clear stretchy CM is a definite sign of ovulation and very important aspect of fertility. :-)

Are you using a fresh or frozen specimens? Anyone outside the TTC world may think I'm referring to vegetables. lol

    <:-)
  • ahhahaahha it was my turn to laugh about the vegetables :-)
I am using frozen veggie :-). I just want to do it so I can know my count/motility. I ended up using a donor from Xytex. I was able to see both child/adult pic's. How are you feeling by the way? any changes?
