Clomid

My IUI last month was unsuccessful somy doctor would like to try Clomid this month. I am just wondering how many people have had success with this and/or multiples. For the record, I have no fertility problems, my doc is just trying for a happy outcome.

  • Do it... that's all I can say. I have no issues either but have had to do 7 IUIs and TONS of out of pocket money later, no baby. It betters your chances each try. You do run a risk of multiples but it doesn't compare to the increased risk when you add the injectibles. The money and the terrible emotional highs and lows are worth the slight risk in order to increase your chances for success... That's just my 2 cents!
  • That is what I keep telling myself....that this will all be TOTALLY worth it in the end!
May I ask if you are still trying?
  • Yes, we're still trying, but I'm sooo jaded now. I've done everything right and have no fertility issues. I've had IUIs where all symptoms point directly to a BFP and then nothing. I find myself frustrated and angry every try. If I were you I would do everything in your power to better your chances, and I mean EVERYTHING...
  • Go for it!!! I did three cycles with Clomid. I never once had more than one mature follicle at the time of ovulation. It didn't work anyone of those 3 months so I moved on to injectables. I think the risk of multiples on Clomid is really minimal. It isn't expensive at all. The first month I got it from my regular pharmacy and it was about $40 for the 5 pills. The next month I shopped around and found that Target (it really is the greatest place on earth) only charged $9 for the 5 pills.

I agree with MGALBN, it is worth a try.
  • MGALBN - when you say do EVERYTHING in my power to better my chances, what other suggestions do you have besides meds, power of positive thinking, etc.?
I got the Clomid at CVS where I generally get prescriptions and it was $15 for 5 pills, so not bad. The only reason I don't use Target's pharmacy is that it's WAAAAY in the back of the store and I'll find 10 other things I want on the way back there LOL
  • What I mean is, if there is anything out there within YOUR control to better your chances, grab it! Don't get me wrong, I totally understand how people want to use the least invasive method in the hopes that they'll get a BFP on the first try. Heck, I did... but I miscarried. Had I known then what I know now I would probably gone directly to IVF to get the best chance possible from attempt #1. With 7 IUIs under my belt in roughly a year of trying, I have actually paid MORE out of pocket than what my RE charges for IVF and I still don't have a little one. My insurance actually covers quite a bit, not everything, but more than I thought they would. I'm healthy, don't have PCOS or fibriods etc, in my mid 30s and have had my tubes and uterus checked for a clean bill of health but am still faced with so many failures. Clomid, injectables, baby asprin, mucinex, acupuncture whatever it takes or you can afford financially. The positive thinking is DEF a must and it's what I'm struggling with this time around. I've been chin up for so long but this is getting ridiculous!!! I wish you the world of luck! Baby dust baby dust baby dust!!!
  • My insurance pays NOTHING so all of this is out of pocket for me.
After 7 non-successful IUI's, at what point are you switching to IVF?
  • jaimec, I love your reason for not going to Target. Forget Disney World, Target is the greatest place on earth.

I tried acupuncture. I've read online and my Dr told me that it is known to aid in fertility. My sessions with the acupunturist have been the MOST relaxing thing I have ever done. I sleep better the few nights after a treatment than ever. It feels as though you've had a glass of wine or two but without the drunk part. Total and complete relaxation like I've never experienced before. My sister who ix expecting identical twins (conceived naturally) has gone through her entire pregnancy. She's the one that hooked me. I've scheduled another appointment for next week. Can't wait!
