Just a question for anyone who has gotten pregnant

I was wondering if you used the iui or the ici and how many tries it took to get pregnant. My wife and I are getting ready to add to our family and are trying to find the best and most successful way to have our baby. Thank you

  • Hi there Arroyo - My wife and I are new to this as well. We just tried our first IUI on friday. I am 29 with no known issues, but we decided to go through a specialists and proceed with IUI. We did follistim shots and the ovidrel trigger shot. We won't know if anything was successful until Feb 8th, if I do not get my period we will go in for a blood test to find out if we are pregnant! I'll keep you posted. I'm not sure about ICI, but I've heard the success rates are higher for IUI.

    Good luck.
  • hi, i did iui and was very lucky, i got pregnant my first time without any shots or pills. Coming into the AI experience i tried to learn as much as possible. My understanding, and again i may be incorrect is that there are different washes of the iui and ici vials, If you were to have the iui procedure where they deposit the sperm directly into the uterus you would have to purchase the iui vials because the wash is different and you could not use the ici vials because it is the semen and seminal fluids. People who want to attempt AI at home may opt for the ici vials.

One thing that i liked about the iui was that since the sperm is deposited into the uterus directly they were that much closer to the egg. The iui is a little more expensive than the ici. I hope that helps a little.

    good luck!!!!
  • My partner and I are going in for our first appointment this week and will be doing our first IUI in Feb. Our doctor actually recommends us to use the ICI vials because whatever they wash it with preserves the specimen better. With IUI vials, there are 2 washings done prior to shipment, plus if your doctor does additional ones this would lead to multiple washings of the specimen. With ICI, the vials are washed once prior to shipment I believe.

Congrats on your pregnancy the first time olearye!! We are hoping this happens to us as well.

    Baby dust to you elenipapa!!
  • Hey Arroyo,

My wife and I did IUI. We also got pregnant on our first go. No pills or shots either. I did however, watch my cycle closely and I went to the dr. three days in a row (at my request). But it paid off. I was also told by my dr that ICI are far less common to take on the first try. Good luck to everyone trying! Baby dust to you all. :-)
  • Hello I did 10 iuis. 6 natural with just opks. 4 with meds and monitoring. I moved onto ivf and im now 18 weeks pregnant!
  • Question for Libster15 and Olearye: Did you do anything extra, besides tracking your cycle, to have such success on the first time? Are age and health a factor?
  • hi, i used the clear blue easy fertility monitor to try and track my cycles because my cycles were like 34 days and my ovulation was all over the place so it was really difficult without that monitor. i kept a calendar of when i started and ended my period and then what bar i was on during my cycle (the clear blue easy monitor will have you pee on a stick and plug it into the machine and then it will tell you with either one, two or three bars how fertile you are). As much as i tried to predict when i would ovulate the following month my body would throw me a curve ball and it would be a different day so without the actual monitor telling me it would be a shot in the dark.

I didn't use any shots or pills or anything else. When i got the three bars on the monitor then i ordered to have the vial shipped and went in to my doctors office the next day and got bfp! i did one vial of iui total.

I do highly recommend the fertility monitor, i got pregnant my first attempt and i know three other friends who also got pregnant their first attempt with using the monitor. I bought mine on amazon and the pee strips.
I hope that helps! good luck!
  • Thank you! Tomorrow is my first visit with a fertility doctor and I feel like I'm swimming in questions. You've answered one of my biggest ones so again thank you.
  • My partner and I got pregnant on our first IUI try and are currently 23 weeks pregnant. We are both big time planners so we pulled out all the stops with our first attempt. I saw an acupuncturist for 6 weeks prior to the IUI, used Clomid for 5 days, 4 days of Bravelle shots and then a trigger shot. Our reproductive specialist actually preferred the ICI because they wash them regardless and they are cheaper. The donor we chose was out of ICI so we ended up using IUI.
  • i had a iui today hope to get pregnant this time.my partner and i have been very stressed out about this,. hope this is the last time.since this is our 4th try so we made it very strong on meds..fingers crossed .now waiting for the two weeks then pregnancy test!! :)lets see how everything goes.
