Hello,
Has anyone used Donor# 12192 and was successful or not successful? Did you use Home Insemination or go to a doctor for Artificial Insemination? Any thoughts on success rates? I heard going to a doctor was better, but we were thinking about doing Home Insemination for our first time, but we are kind of scared. Also, we would love to see pictures if you are willing to share. My email is… stephany702@yahoo.com. We would be so grateful if you can help out in anyway with any information.
Thank you,
Stephany

Success rates using an IUI in a physician's office (vs. ICI at home) are significantly higher for a number of reasons.
First, an IUI places the sperm directly into the uterus - much closer to the egg than an ICI which only gets the sperm as far as the cervix. Less distance to travel means better odds of the sperm finding the egg.
Secondly, timing is everything when it comes to getting pregnant. You only have about a 1-2 day window in which you can get pregnant (varies with age, health, etc.). The sperm will survive 12-24 hours after insemination. It is important to get the sperm to the egg at just the right time. A physician will use ultrasound to precisely time your ovulation and make sure you maximize your opportunity. An at-home ovulation kit can accomplish the same thing, but are less accurate -- especially if your cycles are not very regular.
Finally, if there is anything preventing you from getting pregnant, a physician will be able to help. If you are trying at home, you have no way of knowing if the reason you are not successful is simply bad luck, a timing problem, or some other medical issue. At the very least, you should be sure to see your OB prior to getting started for a consultation.
I hope I am not adding to your fear. This is all totally normal stuff that everyone goes through. It is always better to plan ahead and give yourselves the best chance at success, rather than spending way to much time and money working in the dark.
Good luck!
Scott
