dilemma... who does your inseminations?

Hello, all.
I'm in serious need of some help in the form of your experiences with reproductive healthcare providers, so I hope you'll share.

I've been going to a large fertility clinic that seems to have insemination down to a science. It's what they do all day, every day. Well, actually I don't know what they do ALL day because they only do IUIs between 7:00 and 9:00 am, but their business is getting women pregnant. They did my hysterosalpingogram, hysterosonogram, endometrial biopsy and IUI #1 over the course of the summer.

Today I found out that my employer is changing insurance companies September 1st (2 days from now!) to a provider that my clinic does not accept. At first I fell apart a little bit, but now I'm curious what my other options are. There are other large fertility clinics in my area, but I'm more interested in possibly finding someone with a more personal approach.

I'm tempted to take the ICI vial we have left in storage at our clinic and try a home insemination this month, but worry that may be like pouring our money down the drain.

How did you find your R.E.? Is s/he in an OB/Gyn practice? Some other setting? I don't know exactly how to set about finding someone new, so your input is greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

  • I have Kaiser insurance and chose not to go to Kaiser because of a friends bad experience.I wasnt comfortable with a nurse practitioner doing my insemination. My friend was able to find a Kaiser dr with a private practice and he allowed us to pay the same 50% as Kaiser we have both been using him.As for inseminations at home I wouldnt suggest doing it but I hear a lot of people are successful
  • I too had Kaiser and they would not cover any of it. Decided to do it myself with my wife inseminating at home. Tons of precautions taken, as sterile an environment as possible, candles, nice dinner and just the two of us. It was successful and we now have a baby girl.
