Natural IUI- NO MEDS!

Hi Everyone! I am new to this whole process and my husband and I will be doing our first IUI in July hopefully. we are probably going to use donor 12681. My doc wants to do natural dIUI due to the fact that I am young and have no known fertility problems. We have already had a failed IVF with my husband's sperm and one failed IUI with his sperm. Has anyone had success with a natural donor IUI...meaning no medications used. I'm to use an OPK and the day after I get my surge, I will go in for an ultrasound and then the IUI a few hours later. Can someone please share their success stories with this protocol?? I am getting nervous that things won't be timed correctly :(

  • Let me just say im doing opks and no meds and im going on 6 failed !! I want to to meds and ultrasounds but insurance wont cover until i do 6. I wish i could have started with meds and monitoring. Maybe could they do monitoring with trigger but no fertlity meds? I would suggest using opks, doing ultrasound monitoring and trigger shot then iui. The timing is TOUGH. I have tried different timings every month
  • Oh goodness...that makes me very nervous :( My doc wants to do 6 before moving onto meds, but that's way too expensive! Maybe I'll do 1 and then insist that we do meds. I asked about monitoring and then trigger shot with no other meds, but he said no it's not necessary. Well, it's necessary for my bank account and my sanity lol!
  • If you don't mind me asking, how old are you? My RE said since I'm only 23 and have regular cycles, it should work after 6 tries...
  • Im 37 and have had 2 miscarriages. Not through iui. I honestly think its my timing thats off. Im also doing 6 and then moving to meds and monitoring
  • Hi - just wanted to let you know that I have gotten pregnant three times using no medication and just an IUI following a positive OPK. Good luck!
  • ok soljean...what was your timing after the opk?? I have done a few day of and a few day after. This time was within 24 hours and nothing is working :(
  • Hi tracyc375,

I just went in for my 1st IUI on Sunday. I have a 14mo old son and this is our next round of expanding our family.

I did the natural IUI cycle both with my little guy in the past as well as this most recent time. My Dr. has us test with the clearblue easy kit starting on day 10, morning and late afternoon (4-7pm), while restricting fluids for the afternoon one for 2 hrs. before testing and not urinating for 4hrs. before. If we get the +OPK in the evening, then we go in the next morning for an 11am IUI. That's the norm timeframe at the fertility clinic we attend.

This past time as well as the time before when I got prego with my son, I got a +OPK at 7am as well as 7pm and then went in the next morning.

    Hope this helps...
  • Hi babylovu,

Try not to stress yourself out too much about the possibility of 6 attempts at natural cycle IUI's. I was in the same boat as you with my Dr. because I have no fertility issues in my fam or with myself and my cycle has always been normal and exactly 28days. I will caution you though to not get too nervous about it not working out naturally without meds. With my first round of IUI's, two years ago, I was nervous about not getting a +opk and then when I hadn't gotten it yet by day 14, I still went in that same day to get the IUI. I ended up ovulating 2 full days later (felt the pain) and the IUI didn't take because it was done too early. Then from the stress, my cycle was off and I didn't end up getting my period until day 31.
The next cycle, I stayed calm, tested in the morning an night, and got the +opk on day 15, and went in on day 16 for the IUI. I also continued with my normal schedule of running a few times a wk and swimming a few times a week as well. I tried not to focus on it and stayed as calm as possible, lol. Needless to say I found out I was pregnant 14 days later!!

So don't distress that you will have to go the meds route and the natural way won't work, because it can work and it does work.

Do you know when you're going in for the IUI?

I am in the 2ww now and am trying to take my own advice :-) Although it's a lot easier right now since my lil guy requires all of my attention when I get home from work at night...no time to worry, lol!
