  • Hi Rebecca -

The screening process takes approximately 6 months and involves a combination of physical exams, STD and genetic testing, and multiple interviews by genetic counselors and donor coordinators.

Applicants must show proof of enrollment or a degree from a 4 year universtity and GPA. Also, many of our donors are from UCLA, Stanford, Harvard, and MIT, and othe outstanding colleges, so to even qualify for those universities they had to have outstanding high school records.

The family histories are reported by the applicant, but are extensively reviewed by our gentics department and medical director. The majority of the time, the applicant is asked for more detail or clarification.

Legally, we have no way of obtaining family medical records. However, our genetics staff is very experienced in assessing not only the information given, but also the way it is given and how consistent an applicant is with his answers. An applicant goes through multiple stages of interview where the same questions are asked in differing ways and we look for any varience or hesitation in his answers.

Remember, you are only seeing less than 1% of applicants that pass our screening process to become actual donors.

    Regards,
