Hey everyone,
Has anyone tried inseminating at home with any success ? If so what methods are you using ? I heard that there are different ways to do this . I am very interested to hear any and all info on this. I also heard that having an orgasm before doing this is helpful not sure if this true, just very curious as to what you all think.
Thanks,
Kimberly

Thanks for you reply, I was going back and forth on what to do . At home or trying with a Dr. A few yrs ago I tried iui's with my obgyn. I ended up stopping after 4 tries , my partner and I split up. Everything was getting really stressful and messy .So I took time off from trying. I'm now 40 and single and ready to start my family ! So thanks again for all the info. Congrats on your successful pregnancy and good luck !
Appreciatively,
Kimberly
Sorry I didn't respond sooner, but I don't frequent this board.
I can say from experience that it is totally possible to do ICI at home and be successful. I'm looking at my 2 year old daughter who is the living proof.
My wife and I did ICI at home and were successful on our first try. We are now trying for our second child.
To answer your questions, you can purchase 1cc needless syringes at a medical supply store. You also need a catheter (flexible tube) that fits on the end of the of the syringe.
Our methodology was pretty low tech, but it was suggested by the nurse at an RE's office. We did initial bloodwork and consultation and then told the RE that we wanted to try at home first, so we were given suggestions on how to do it.
-Discalimer -- This is what we did and is not suggesting that anyone should necessarily follow our protocol.
We thawed the sperm in a body-temperature water bath per the instructions, then sucked the swimmers into the syringe with the catheter on. We made things "romantic" and then before the big "O" inserted the swimmers. The nurse told us to get the catheter against the cervix and then pull it back a bit. Then, the big O.
We did two insems about 10 hours apart.
Obviously if you are going to try at home, you should be charting so that you can time things as well as possible. You have a very small window of opportunity and you have to guess right. Charting makes it an educated guess unless you are one of the few lucky women who can feel ovulation. That's why so many women choose monitored, medicated IUIs at an RE's office. They can do a trigger shot and have a much better idea of when you will ovulate because they trigger it.
Good luck to you!
Thanks~

We're finding out (while trying for our second child) that we were really lucky. We've had a bit of trouble with timing lately.
