Turning 38 soon...would like a second child, but...

Hello Everyone,

I have a beautiful (almost) 3 year old son, who came into my life by total surprise, and the best gift ever given to me.
His father and I were not a good match for one another, so we went our separate ways...including him completely exiting my son's life-by choice.
I had hoped in the course of the last couple of years I'd meet "Mr. Right" for me and my little boy, but it just hasn't happened. Now that my 38th birthday is right around the corner (next month), I am considering the process of UI, but have concerns. Such as, how 'hi-risk' is it to carry a pregnancy at 38, 39? (In general I am healthy, and had a healthy pregnancy with my son at the age of 34/35; carried him to 41 weeks).
Also, I worry how a donor pregnancy would affect my son. How would I explain it to him, especially as he gets older?
I just want to be sure I am absolutely "right" with my decision, either way. I do not want to have any regrets; I want to be confident with my decision.
Any insight is appreciated...thank you.

  • I AM YOUNG SO IDK ABOUT THE RISK AND HAVEN'T DONE THE IUI YET, BUT HOPEFULLY IN MARCH. MY PHYSICIAN SUGGESTED MY PARTNER AND I HAVE PSYCHOLOGICAL COUNSELING BEFORE PROCEEDING WITH THE IUI BECAUSE WE ARE USING A DONOR AND NEED TO UNDERSTAND THINGS. THINGS LIKE HOW WE'RE GOING ABOUT IT WHEN THE QUESTIONS COME FROM OUR CHILD AND SO FORTH... LOOK INTO THE COUNSELING SO YOUR CHILD CAN BETTER UNDERSTAND THE CONCEPT. WISH YOU THE BEST OF LUCK IN WHATEVER DECISION YOU MAKE.
