IVF

7 failed IUIs so moving on to IVF. Had an orientation today. Feeling hopeful but so nervous about how heartbreaking it will be if it does not work. 38 yrs old. No known fertility issues. One vial left of donor Sperm. Anyone in a similar situation?

  • Similar situation here. 37 years old with 3 failed IUI s and decided to move on to IVF. Hoping to cycle mid April. Praying for success on the first try. No known fertility issues.
  • Good luck to you!! Such a hard choice. I was hoping I wouldn't have to go this route but after 7 ....
    Please keep me posted.
  • Hey ladies! I hope you don't mind me joining your conversation. I'm in the same boat, however I am single & doing this on my own (not sure if either one of you are)...I'm 38 and I've had 3 failed IUIs. Besides having irregular periods, no other issues. I am now moving on to IVF. I have also switched Reproductive Groups and I have my first consultation with my new RE on Thursday. I'm so excited to get going! It would be great if we all ended up on the same cycle! Let's hope we will soon have our BFPs!! Baby dust to us all!!

    Jennie :)
  • Thanks Jennie-
I think we spoke on another thread as well!
I will have the last test needed sometime in April. My plan is to do IVF in June. I am 37 and single and I hope I am making the right decision. I don't know if I should have switched doctors and tried more drugs with the IUIs but after 7 failed I felt I needed to try something else. I can only hope that the doctors and nurses led me in the best path but I will always wonder if I should have stuck it out with IUI. I also did 7 months in a row which was very stressful. I'm actually enjoying the time off!!

Good luck to you. It's so hard to find people to talk to about this because I don't personally know anyone who has fine down this exact road. Scary but so exciting!! I wish the cost wasn't so high since I will be raising this child on my own but I know once it works I won't care any longer about what it cost!
  • So I had my appointment with my new MD and he thinks I'm a good candidate for IVF. I have to have labs done and an SIS. He is coming up with protocol and starting me on BC pills. It lookalike I will be in June also!! I'm so excited to get started!!! Baby dust!! Keep me posted! :)
  • Great news Jennie!
Not sure if you would be interested but maybe we can exchange email addresses and keep in touch. Sounds like our situation and time line is very close!! What area are you from?

    Keep us posted! Good luck!
  • Hey! I would love to stay in touch!! I'm from Tampa, FL. You?! My email address is dragonflinurse@gmail.com. Feel free to send me an email!!

    Jennie :)
  • Hi Everyone! I was reading your posts and couldn't help but relate on some level. I had my first IUI in Jan. And became pregnant. Unfortuniately 2 weeks ago I had a miscarriage. This was my first pregnancy ever. My Dr. said I can try again in 3 months. I would love to have other single moms who are on this same journey to talk with via email or phone. Dragonflinurse...I live in Vero Beach Fl. Right across from you on the other coast! Ah_511...if you live in FL we could all start a Singles Mom Club for strong independent women tired of waiting for Mr. Right lol hope to hear from you girls soon!
  • I live in Ohio and REALLY wish I had someone close by that is going through the same thing. My family and friends are awesome but it's not the same.
Lucky I joined the SMC network (single mothers by choice) and they gave me contact info for someone in my area who has done all of this. We communicate through email and she has been a great support.

Hope to keep in touch with all of you and Jennie I will be emailing you ;-)
  • Mommmy2b - Welcome!I'm so sorry that you miscarried. I have never been pregnant, so I can't empathize, but I'm sure it has been rough and emotionally so painful. I can't imagine :( I try to stay positive (which is sometimes so very hard) through this process because I have to believe that it will happen for me when it's supposed to happen. I have to have something to keep me going. Negativity just brings me down. You know one positive thing for you is that you know that you can get pregnant. That's really important! Have you had an SIS done to check your lining? Did your RE put you on Progesterone? Sorry for the 20 questions, just trying to pass on information that I've heard/read/learned over the past few years. Feel free to email me as well!

ah - Regardless of our locations, you have my support! It's so hard going through this alone. Even with family and friends supporting you, having someone with a similar situation is imperative (at least I think so). Let's all keep in touch! I look forward to your email!

    Baby dust!

  • Hi dragonflinurse, I am in Tampa, FL too.I had two failed IUI two months ago. I am thinking about switch RE. I wonder if you know any good RE in the bay area? Thank you.
  • Btw, I am 38. FSH 11.3, AMH 1.48. Not sure if I should try more IUI or IVF.
  • I am also 38 (almost)

    My AMH is 1.03

My doctor told me IUI with frozen spwrm is about 10% chance or so and IVF at my age about 45% chance. Always hard to know what to do.

I never thought I would be past 7IUS and getting ready for IVF. you just never know where your path will take you
  • Hi ladies,.. same boat here 32/widow & ready to be mom. Sorry to hear of ur lost mommy2b,.. i miscarried also (at 5 week mark) so i know ur heartbreak,.. i live in ga but considering moving on to ivf if my next iui doesnt result in healthy baby,.. anyone looked into cny fertility?
  • I know everyone seems ready to do IVF . I was wondering roughly how much does IVF costs? I thought I remebered reading some where that it was about 12,000 is that right? I've purchased enough vials to try for 2 more iui's and if that doesn't work I may have to move onto IVF.
  • Yes that is about the cost. It was huge and stressful decision but I try to remember .... I can always make more money but I can't always get pregnant

I did 7iuis which had already cost a ton but I was hoping they would work. My doctor said IUI with frozen sperm has about a 10% chance of working whereas IVF is about 45%

Good luck. It's a huge decision.
  • 888!!! It's such a small world! That is crazy that you are in Tampa too! I was going to RMG on Fletcher, but I have moved on to Dr. Imudia at USF Fertility and I am already happier. So you have done two IUIs so far? I did a total of 3, but the last was in 2013. I took a break to take care of my mom. She is doing so much better and I just decided it was the time. I knew I was going to do IVF if my 3rd IUI didn't take. I have a friend and my sister-in-law who really encouraged me to just move on to IVF because the chances are so much better. Just to let you know, if you go to USF Fertility and they have to do any procedures, i.e. HSG, SIS, etc., they do them at TGH and you get a discount on your meds...like almost half price. My IVF is costing me around 15k which includes meds & cost of donor. Pricey but I feel like this is what I'm supposed to do.

So are you originally from Florida? Are you doing this on your own? Which donor are you using? I am using 12874. :) I bought his last two ICI vials. He is no longer donating. I decided to buy two in case I wanted to have another baby in a couple years, they would be full siblings.

Mommy2b & Lotus - good luck in your journeys as well! There are a lot of amazing women to chat with on this site and that have so many similar experiences.

Ladies, feel free to email me at dragonflinurse@gmail.com.

ah - I just read your email and will reply soon :)

    Baby dust ladies!!!

    Jennie :)
  • I have my hysteroscopy next Monday and some bloodwork then I am all done until game time in June!
    What a whirlwind.
I did have an ultrasound last month and they saw that I had about 10 antral follicles on each side. From reading and talking to the nurse I am feeling good about those numbers. Anyone have IVF success with similar numbers?? (AMH 1.03)

    Baby dust!

  • Hi Dragonflinurse, Good to hear from you. It is a small world! I had two IUI at USFIVF with Dr. Mayer. I am OK with them but feel they are overwhelmed with too many patients. I am switching to Dr. Tarantino and plan to do two more IUI. But it seems like both places are more interested in pushing their patients to do IVF. Does 15k at USF include PGS or PGD? I used donor 13866 and he is not available any more. I am married. My husband has problems so I have to use donor sperm.
  • Hey 888!

This is so weird because I just changed from Dr. Tarantino to Dr. Immudia at USF. I wasn't very happy with him. I do think that at RMG, they really don't seem to care as much unless you are doing IVF. I only saw him maybe twice and the nurse does the IUIs. With USF, the MD does everything, which to me is important. I went to USF knowing I was going to do IVF, so I can't really say if I was pushed. I already had my PGS/PGD at RMG so not sure if it's included. I haven't gotten a definite amount, but it's around 11k plus meds but because I'm having procedure at TGH, meds are about half off, so they will be about 2k...maybe a little more, plus donor costs...right around 15k I'm thinking. I am using donor 12874. I purchased his last two ICI vials. I believe there are a couple more IUI vials but he is no longer donating. He has 5 or more pregnancies. Feel free to email me if you like. My address is dragonflinurse@gmail.com. I have been corresponding with a few others and we have kind of switched to emailing more than using this thread.

  • I got pregnant after my 5th IUI. My son is 1 1/2 years old. I and now trying to get pregnant again with baby #2. After 6 failed IUI attempts I decided to go the IVF route. I am 41 years old and did not want to keep doing IUIs.

I am documenting my IVF journey on my YouTube channel. Feel free to check it out, you are welcome to email me at michellemaor@yahoo.com if you want to connect or have any questions.

    Good luck!
