Unthawiing sperm

Good Afternoon.

I am having my first IUI next week. My dr is fitting me into her schedule for the IUI, but I need to have the sperm unthawed before the appointment. How do I go about doing this and how long do I have to do the IUI once unfrozen?

  • Aloha!

My doctor does the thawing process at the clinic. I just show up a hour or so prior to my appointment and they are able to start thawing once I get there and sign some paperwork. After it's thawed, they take me back to do the IUI, which literally takes 2 mins. Then I lay there for 10 mins. That's it.

I've never heard of a doctor having the PT thaw themselves before the appointment.

Good luck with your first IUI!! The boards are a great outlet during the TWW. There is so much support given!

Sending you lots of positive vibes and baby dust!
  • Hi M -

Your physician's lab should do the thawing for you prior to the insemination.

If thawed in warm water it should take no more than 10-15 minutes, as per our tank and specimen handling instructions.

I would discuss this with your physician. Our tank and handling instructions will be included in the shipment and can also be found via the website link below. If your physician has any questions about this, we encourage him/her to call us at 866-927-9622.
