Going with Columbia's Center for Reproductive Care in NYC

I'm a 39 year old single gal using Columbia to help me with my New Years wish. I've had my first meeting with Dr. Wang. It was a very good appointment. Anyone one else just starting off using this Center?

  • Hi, I was a patient of Dr. Wong's for the past year. He is the sweetest thing ever. I was 39 and got pregnant on my 1st and 2nd IUIs but lost them at 12 and 8 weeks. It wasn't easy but I decided to try my 5th IUI at Cornell and found out last week that I was pregnant. I do like the timing process of Cornell better. At Columbia we just timed it with my surge and Cornell actually gives you the hcg shot to time your IUI. When is your first cycle?
  • Congratulations on your pregnancy, that is wonderful news!
What made you decide to continue with the IUIs after 3 or 4 tries and not go the IVF route? I'm on my first IUI is schedule for mid March.
I looked into Cornell, which sounds like a great Center, but they do not accept my insurance.
    Congratulations again!
  • Congratulations!

I'm currently starting my 4th IUI cycle at NYU - crossing my fingers. But I never thought to check out different cycles so I think I will do that if this one doesn't work. I'm also curious about why you didn't go the IVF route.

I assume you are both in NYC - any interest in trying to meet?
  • Thanks! I'm praying this one sticks! It's going to be a long road, but I'm really hopeful. All my bloodwork looks great and my first u/s is next week.
IVF was my next step, so that's why I switched to Cornell. They are the IVF experts in NYC. My new RE wanted to try another IUI then on to IVF. He thought there was a good chance of success since I got pregnant 2 out of 4 IUIs at Columbia. My 3rd IUI was my first cycle after the 2nd miscarriage so I wasn't surprised it didn't work. And now pregnant on my 5th IUI which was my first cycle at Cornell. There were no genetic or chromosomal issues with my 12 week loss, so I'm hoping this egg is a good one.

The insurance at Cornell is confusing. The center doesn't take insurance but different docs take different insurance plans.

I live in the UWS. What about yall?

    Good luck on your IUIs!!
  • Hi Kellar,

Thanks so much for sharing this information, you obviously had good advice and good instincts to go with the 5th IUI. This is probably the one that will stick since you have been through so much already.

I'm doing my Day 2 bloods probably next week so I am a bit nervous about my FSH levels. I get regular periods so I'm hoping for the best.

I would definitely like to meet up with you and nbl, I live on the UES.

Lets all have a good next week.
  • I'm going for my 4th insemination some time early next week - not exactly sure when but back to Dr on Saturday.

I'd like to meet up too - I'm in the Murray Hill area.

Good week to you guys too.
  • I'm on the UWS. Let's get in touch and meet for coffee/tea. I had my first u/s yesterday. I'm only 5 weeks so we saw the gestational sac BUT I really need to see the yolk sac next week. Send me good thoughts.

Overflowinghope, I hope your bloodwork went well!
    nbl, good luck with #4!
  • Kellar, I am sending you a million good thoughts.
