Genetic Screening

Do you test donors to see if they are carriers for hemochromatosis? It's not a very serious disease and modern treatment makes it practically a non-issue, but it's very common - with about 10% of people being carriers. I just found out that I'm a carrier for the mild version. Sounds like it wouldn't be all that bad if my donor was a carrier too, but it would be good to know whether you test for that since it is so common to be a carrier.

We do not do testing as part of our routine screening but may be able to do it on her donor if he is available as part of our Special Testing Program. Please contact the Genetics Dept at 877-743-6384 for more information.
