clomid and estradiol

I'm starting my second IUI cycle. On the first cycle I used 50mg clomid. On day 13 the u/s showed 3 follies at 19mm, but the lining was only 6 (what, milimeters?). So we waited a couple of days before doing the ovidrel trigger shot.
This cycle, my RE is recommending I use 50mg clomid on CD 3-7 again, but that I add 2mg of estradiol on CD 8 through insemination.
I'm interested to hear from others who have used estradiol. Did it help in some way?
