To medicate or not to medicate?

After looking into Natural Cycle IVF, I've decided to try for my fifth IUI first. I've done all the rest unmedicated and, obviously, it hasn't worked out yet. But I also ovulate like clockwork and I'm pretty sure my timing's been fine. Sometimes it just takes a few tries, esp. at my age (just turned 40) and w/frozen sperm.
However, I'd like to try and maximize my chances next time around and I'm considering doing a medicated cycle. I tried it once before, but Clomid didn't work for me (only produced 2 follicles). In his book "Making Babies," Dr. Sami Davis recommends actually lowering the dosage of Clomid for effectiveness (it's worked with his patients), so that's something I might suggest to my doctor if I go that route.
Financially speaking, it's either back-to-back IUIs or a single medicated IUI (they only do it once for medicated cycles, anyway).
So I guess I'm just trying to decide which is the best route. Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance.
