I need advice...pls..

So. I am 41. TTC. I have visited the RE. All looks good (says I have the follicles of a 20-25 year old). All hormone levels are good as suggested by blood work. Quality of eggs of course is not predictable. But... IAM 41! The RE wants to do everything unmedicated because he says there is good probability based on my U/S and blood work. But, IAM 41! I know all of that is great.. I am fortunate and blessed. But, IAM STILL 41! He says if I WANT to be more aggressive (this is first IUI) then he would be willing to do so, but say's its not necessary. I just think it is important to keep in mind IAM 41! lol.. I know I am crazy. So, my question is... if you were me would you be as aggressive as possible to increase your chances even the first time if you were 41?? Or is that ridiculous and I just need to sit down and shut up? Remember: I AM 41! ;o} Thank you for your input... by the way, tomorrow is cycle day 5.. so I need advice quick!! lol..

  • or better...LAY down and shut up! lol.. I crack myself up..
  • I am 38. All my blood work was good, only thing that caught my RE's attention was my FSH was slightly elevated, it was 13 and apparently they like it no higher than 10. We went straight to Clomid the first cycle and I had a great response 'cept the lining wasn't as thick as they'd like to see it. Second and third time same dose of clomid (100 mg for five days) and she added estrodial (estrogen) to help thicken the lining which it did beautifully. I'd be agressive, but what do I know. I failed three times lol. Fourth time will be the charm. :) Good luck.
  • YOU didn't fail three times... It was just not THE time is all. Thank you for your input!
  • Like I said in Pug's posting - I wish we were able to be more aggressive initially. Money doesn't grow on tree's shoot. If they gave us the option of injections first..we would have done it. I think our FSH was 10.8, but that other number (can't remember what is was called) that was supposed to be no less than 1/3 of the FSH was actually a tad lower than 1/3...so we had a few issues from the start (polyps, age, one ovary, PCOS and the labs)...

    I would be aggressive
  • you are paying an RE, so why give yourself the same chances as a hetero couple who does it for free! The clomid is CHEAP even without insurance like 9 bucks or something....boost your chances but make sure you do estradiol with it, if your lining is bad, it doesn't matter how many follies you have. If we did it all over again, I wouldnt' do an IUI if anything was off. Bad follies - no go, bad lining - no go...etc...
  • At 41 and 4 failed IUIs last year on letrozole I wish I had been a little more aggressive at least after the second one. I'm seeing good results from posts on here about medication and injectable combos. I however have PCOS so I knew i was going to need help. I would love to be able to do it without any drugs but that's not going to work for me. I there was a chance I could have gotten pregnant unmedicated I certainly would have done it. I understand freaking out about the age and time left to do this but you should be able to try 1 or 2 cycles without meds unless financing is a big issue. It can get expensive to keep trying with no results. Just my opinion though...good luck and best wishes!
  • Thank you so much nriley... after much deliberation and bugging the hell out of our RE, we have decided just that.. one IUI unmedicated and anything beyond that will be more aggressive. We want to optimize our chances, but would like to just see what my body will do first. It makes sense to be aggressive but not to do it initially against our RE's advice ya know? So, I do appreciate those of you who shared your stories and gave us feedback.. best of luck to us all..
  • Here's my advice. Stop saying I AM 41! Start saying I AM fertile and you'll get pregnant no matter which options you choose. Believe in yourself, not the procedure. You were told you have the follicles of a 20-25 year old, so say I AM 25! Whatever you do, you have to believe or it will not work! Age has NOTHING to do with it...good luck!
  • Well you sure told me sposatz! lmao! and you are absolutely right.. and I am an optimist..really. And I try hard to fit in some realism at times... and you're right, I am fortunate to not yet have the complications some may.. Today was the day. Our 1st unmedicated IUI.. counts were good, everything with me lined up as it should for the best probability possible for a 25 yr old.. :o) thx for your input.. it is appreciated!! I BELIEVE...
