Using FSA $$$ For Special Genetic Test

I saw a previous post that said you could use your FSA dollars to purchase vials but I was wondering if anyone has tried to use their FSA to pay for a special test. We are having to have a rare genetic test run on our donor due to myself being a carrier and I am interested to know if this would be covered under FSA. Thanks!!

  • I found out that my top donor was a carrier for galactosemia. I have never heard of it but thanks to someone wanting his vials having the test ran I now have gotten tested myself. I am pretty sure that FSA will pay for anything medical/dental and usually includes meds etc. Every empolyer has set rules and restrictions so its best to check with your HR department with that question.
  • Thanks PKaren! I went ahead and paid out of pocket for the test because I figured that since the test would not actually be performed on myself that it wouldn't be billable to the insurance and thus probably not covered!
