In need of encouragement....

I've only just begun this journey to having a family but after a 2nd failed IUI attempt, I'm feeling very let down. I'm sure I can't be the only individual to feel this way which is why I am reaching out. Any advice on what to do/not do during this process?

  • So sorry to hear this. Each time with a negative got tougher for me. I have had 7 failed IUIs with no known issues so I am so frustrated and discouraged. I am moving onto IUI

For me if I had it to do over I would not have done 7 straight months. Although time is important because I am getting older it was wayyy too stressful to focus on that process for 7 months in a row.

IVF is in June and I feel better physically and emotionally just because I am taking a little break. Hang in there. I've seen lots of success stories on here!
  • FaithAnn-

While I have only gone through 2 cycles myself, the first resulted in a negative and currently I am on my TWW with the second cycle, I know how much of an emotional rollercoaster this process is. This is something we are all so emotionally invested in and it takes a huge toll when you have found out that it was unsuccessful. Stay strong and think positive. I know it is easier said than done, but relax and trust that this process does work. These boards are excellent to connect with others who are going through the same things we are. Sometimes you read the "first cycle success" story post though and you find yourself discouraged...but don't be...again I know easier said than done! For the average person it takes 3-4 tries from what our RE has told us...which again, I know doesn't make it any easier. But trust that you will get YOUR BABY...the baby you are meant to have! Once you are holding your lil bundle of joy, all that you went through will just fade into the back drop! While this isn't really anything you probably haven't already heard, sometimes it is just nice to hear other peoples words of encouragement when you're feeling down!

May I ask, did you do medicated cycles? Back to back IUIs or single? Personally, I have done 2 Clomid cycles, each 100 mg. First cycle I took Clomid CD 5-9 but this cycle I took it CD 3-7. Last cycle I used Ovidrel trigger shot and this time I used Pregnly (stronger HCG trigger). We did back to back IUIs for both cycles. Have you thought about switching donors? We switched our donor this cycle, however it was largely due to the first donor having low post thaw sperm count. Do you happen to know your donors counts?

Keep in touch...and BABY DUST to you!
  • Sorry...I meant this cycle we used Pregnyl trigger shot! Typo there :)
  • Thank you for the uplifting words!!! Although I knew these things in my heart, I needed to hear them as well. Time is not on my side as I will be 37 soon and this is not a cheap process either.
Both cycles I did Clomid 50mg days 5-9 and then the Ovidrel trigger shot 36 hours before IUI. The first cycle, the donor count was 16 million and the 2nd time it was 5...yikes! I am having to choose another donor as the one I had used is no longer available. So, I am taking a month off this month and will get back in the saddle for May. I am hoping the third time is the charm!
Good luck to you and sending BABY DUST your way from Texas!!
  • FaithAnn,

Stay strong and keep positive! It will come...I am sure of it! There are so many success stories out there with woman who felt "time isn't on their side"...you will be one of them! Don't get discouraged or disheartened! This process is not cheap, and my insurance covers zero except the ultrasounds...so it adds up. My RE has us doing back to back IUIs 24 and 48 hours respectively after trigger. Like I said, my wife and I are currently in our TWW with cycle 2. We plan on doing a third with back to back IUIs...and if unsuccessful with that attempt our RE advised we could do a 4th cycle...and I believe we will only do one IUI that month. Hoping we don't get to that point though! Our original donor that we selected had terrible post thaw sperm count...our first vial was 2.2 million and the second was 3.7 million...so needless to say we switched donors for cycle 2! This time around our first vial had 8.8 million and 5.5 million the second day! So sounds to me both of your vials were good...the 16 million being GREAT! Our RE said that anything over 5 million gives you the same chance at conception...below the 5 million is where the concern is...Have you given any thought into what donor you will select for your next cycle? Keep in touch, I would love to hear your updates! If you would like, you can e-mail me at wally030306@yahoo.com, if it is easier...Whatever works for you! Remember....you will get your BFP! BABY DUST!!!

    Courtney :)
