Right timing for home insemination

I am gonna have a home insemination next month and I need to get the timing right. I am planning on buying an ovulation test but from what I have heard it only gives you like a 24-36 hr window. I need more time in advance. What kind of test or method can I use to find out my first day of fertility/ovulation day? From what I've heard its about 4 days in a month where you are fertile and can get pregnant. How can I find out my Day 1?
