Over 30: ICI vs. IUI

My wife and I are going to be starting our family this year. I will be carrying first but because I'm a little older, I'm not sure whether I should take my chances with doing a few ICIs or if I should just jump straight into IUIs? Medically speaking, I haven't had any reason to think I will have any problem getting pregnant. I just worry because of the financial costs that we won't be able to keep trying every month like others. Any advice is appreciated, thanks!

  • Hi,

I'm also over 30 and we'll be going for our first IUI in a couple of weeks. We did quite a bit of research to get to this point, but truthfully there's so much information out there, and so much of it seems to be particular to each individual that the choice ultimately lands on what makes you feel you have the best chances, along with what's feasible for your family. Unless your doctor specifically recommends starting at IUIs, there's no real reason not to start where you feel more comfortable. We decided on IUI because our clinic didn't really offer ICI, and we wanted to use a specific doctor, but other than that, it was really up for grabs. My one very humble piece of advice would be to try and be patient with yourself and the process, it can all be pretty overwhelming and often there's hardly any part of it that seems certain, besides the amount of money spent.
