This depends on how agressive you want/need to be. Depending on where you live, unmedicated IUIs cost about $200-500 for the procedure plus the cost of sperm. Add a menue of options including ovulation inducers, ultra sound monitoring and HCG "trigger shots" and medicated IUI's can cost up to $3-4K per cycle, though most are not that high. IVF cost $10-20K per cycle depending on how where and who does it.

Age is a huge factor is how agressive you start out as it is strongly correlated to fertility and can be told w/o a test. This varies ALOT, but generally most doctors will start women in 20s or early 30s with unmedicted IUIs, which usually does the trick in 2-4 cycles. Women in their later thirties often start with a mild ovulation inducer such as Clomid and maybe a trigger shot. Again you are looking at 2-4 cycles to know if it is "working" or not. Doctors are all over the map with women in their fourties from try a few medicated or unmedicated IUIs and see what happens to starting with IVF to excluding them from their programs to keep their stats up.
