Fathers rights for unmarried couples?

About 2 years ago my boyfriend underwent a vasectomy reversal that failed, and after much soul searching we decided on finding a donor. We are not married (5 years together), and so we have concerns about his rights as a father if he is not biological. We have so many questions, and I'm certain we aren't the first couple to be in this situation. Here are a few questions we have:

Can we just write his name on the birth certificate, even if we know he isn't actually the biological father? Does he/will he need to adopt? If we get married will he then automatically be considered the father?

Anyone who couple give us advice or tell us their story would be greatly appreciated.:)

  • Hi Teresa -

The decision to use a donor isn't an easy one, but we hear back from many CCB families that it was the best decision they've ever made.

You may want to browse through the "Share Your Experience/Success Stories" forum to read about other clients' experiences.

Since paternity/adoption laws vary by state, it's best to contact an attorney to find out the details regarding the birth certificate.
