5th IUI Attempt - Concerned about Timing

Hello Everyone - I want to get others thoughts and feedback on what you have experience. Today is day 1 of my cycle and according to my ovulation tracker I am due to ovulate next Sunday Oct 5th. I've been told that the trigger shot will delay ovulation. But I'm not so sure about that. I always worry about having a IUI scheduled after the weekend. What if I ovulate that Saturday or Sunday? I want to get feedback on other experience with the triggr shot. My wife and I are starting clomid on day 3 and then we go for an ultrsound usually day 10 - which will be Friday Oct 2 - which means IUI on Monday the 5th. I know the trigger shot usually allows the egg to release 36 hours after administered. But if technically I'm scheduled to ovulate before my scheduled IUI will the trigger shot delay it? I know I'm going crazy and my wife think so also. But I'm curious to know what others have gone through. Going through 4 failed IUI's has taken a toll on me and my wife. And I just want to feel better about the process. Thoughts please.

  • Are you tracking your surge with an ovulation predictor kit? That's the only way to know if you're about to ovulate. If you trigger after you've started your surge, then you can ovulate in less than 36 hours. If you're not surging when you trigger, then you will most likely ovulate around 36 hours later. Clomid delays ovulation in a lot of people unless that's the reason you're taking it. So I wouldn't just go by a "scheduled" ovulation date from an app.

Is there a reason you can't do an iui over the weekend? It seems like if that's when you ovulate that's when you should do it.
  • I completely understand your frustration with timing. I get false positives using an ovulation predictor kit, so I cant go based off of that. What we do is, we go in on day 3 of my period to have a follicle scan to ensure that my eggs have dropped from the previous month. After that, we go in every 3-4 days to see how the eggs are growing. When you get your trigger shot, it will pretty much determine when you need to do the IUI. You can ovulate anywhere between 12-36 hours post trigger shot. We have done 3 IUIs so far with no luck, trying to agree on how many times we want to try between moving on to IVF. Stay positive, I know it can be super stressful! I would try to do a follicle scan every few days to be able to measure the size of your eggs to determine when you will likely drop. Don't go based just off of your scheduled date from your app, everyone is different. Best of luck! Hope I can help a little. Baby dust!
