First try last night....

So ladies my partner and I did our first ICI using a syringe and a speculum like they use during your annual OB visit. I freaked out because some leaked out when I shifted my position afterwards. My question is how many of you have TTC this way and had success? Also I'm slightly crampy today and have had very light tinge spotting when I wipe after I pee, is this normal? I'm so nervous and need some support. I've wanted a baby for a long time and just want to be pregnant. Any help or hints would be greatly appreciated!!

P.S. I never got a positive surge but we did it anyhow because I ordered them in advance and my chart that's been tracking my ovulation gave me a window of 5 days, last night was the second to last day so we went ahead and did it hoping it takes. Thank you for any help or comments :-) now the 2 week waiting period begins!! Ugh the waiting and wondering sucks!!

  • Eeeek...if you didn't get a positive surge I wouldn't have done it. No positive surge means no ovulation, which means no egg for the sperm to fertilize. Are you normally extremely regular? This might have been an off month because you are stressing about trying and what not. Also I find it strange you are cramping and bleeding seeing how you didn't penetrate the cervix (you didn't right cuz I think that is the difference between IUI and ICI)
  • I had no choice but to use them. I had ordered them last week in advance and they only stay frozen for 7 days. What's worse is that when my gf used the syringe and put them in me, I moved my position just slightly afterwards and some ran out of me down my butt :( this was our first try at home using a syringe to ICI. I was nervous the whole time. Worried I would kill the lil guys if we didn't use them right away after thawing, and them they spilled out. I'm just hoping maybe I missed my surge but not the ovulation itself. I read online that you should test around 2 pm in the day because it takes that long for your hormone levels to show up in the test. Well no where on the OVP kits does it at this. I started using the EPT testing kits first then decided to try the digital ones because I can't always tell if I'm surging or not on the stick ones with the lines. Ugh this has been way more stressful then I had hoped for. Thank you for all your help and comments. Keep them coming!!! :) I need some serious baby dust blown my way... If you have any ideas as to better my chances or whatever please tell me. I want a baby so badly!!! Thanks again , Liz
  • With the sticks you pee on, from what we've seen, it's one edge of the line that will get dark...not the entire line. So if your test line has an edge that is as dark or darker than the control line then it's positive.

I forgot this was at home and you had to have them shipped. Wow, that's kinda crazy because like this time, if you cycle goofs up it can waste a lot of money!

How come you guys don't just do IUI's? You can do them unmedicated and it's about 250 bucks for them to squirt it for ya!
  • You never know Liz. You might not be out of it. I had some friends who did their first IUI two weeks ago. They were running out of time with the sperm and did their trigger shot and inseminated 6 hours later (yes, you read correctly, 6!!). The whole thing was kind of a disaster and I thought that they had a snowballs chance in hell of conceiving. Well, I got the excited text message yesterday. They are pregnant! How they can get pregnant from a badly timed first IUI is beyond me when we've been going at this for four cycles now with very careful planning and no success so far. :-P

    You never know!

  • Wow 6hours! Ovulation must of started prior to getting trigger, this could be the only explaination to me. Well good for them! So many crazy things can happen.
  • LoL...that's crazy! But I guess it doesn't matter what we do...everything happens for a reason!
  • Yeah, I'm still trying to figure that one out. She never did have a positive OPK. I suppose it's possible she just missed it?

My neighbors tried to have kids for 10 years. Finally, they had IVF scheduled in Peru. Next things you know, she's pregnant...naturally. Even though they had many IUI's over the years and were charting for YEARS. (they were a straight couple so sperm was free for them) Something just clicked and she got pregnant.

Still working on wrapping my brain around that whole universe is going to do what it's going to do when it wants to do it. No matter how much you want it, or how much money you throw at it, or how much time you invest in it, I guess it happens when it's supposed to happen.
  • Thank you ladies for all your support and help, it means a lot. I'm trying not to stress but it's hard not to. Didn't think that getting pregnant would be so difficult.. I have another question, have any of you heard of taking soy pills called soy isoflaves or something like that?? Supposedly it's like a natural clomid. If you or anyone you know has taken it, did you have any success with it?? And I think I may have missed my O just because I had CM but never got a positive OPK.. I used the digital ones though., I decided to go back to the stick ones cause I'm worried the digital didn't work. Which kind of OPK are you using?? Digital or stick? And which one has the better result??
  • So I have been using the clearblue easy OPK digital at home and doing at home ICI's. When we started all of this, my RE recommended them due to their low price and high accuracy.
I completely understand the whole timing thing. When I have gotten a positive surge anywhere from day 13 to day 18 it makes sending this shipment to the house very difficult. I tend to get really frustrated when day 15 rolls on by without a positive because the "norm" is CD14.
After 3 months, my RE is starting clomid to try and help regulate my O to make timing easier. And we are doing at home IUI's starting this month. (no one panic, we have our RE's blessing and training, and we are both advanced medical providers)
Just remember, as stressful as this is, we are all here for you. We are all brought together here to support each other through the understanding of common ground. Sending you baby dust. Keep us informed:)
