2nd IUI... any advice

Hi! I had my second IUI today. I really praying that this one works out. I talked to the doctor about what to do if this one fails also... should I keep on doing this or try something new? He said that I could try taking fertility drugs that would make me have 2 or 3 eggs per cycle instead or just one. I'm single... so financially I don't think that I could support twins or more. I'm so confused?

  • Hi ryanhl:
Just hang in there...I just had my 2nd IUI on 12-23
and I'm single as well... If this is what you really want it will be worth it in the end. I'm 40 with no children unless this takes this time... If you want to keep in touch, please email me at ajhollen@gmail.com Good Luck with everything....Happy New Year
  • Ajh, it is good to know that someone else my age is on this board and going through the same thing. I had my 1st IUI on 12/9 and it was unsuccessful. I am going for the 2nd one sometime next week. I am wishing that the new year brings you a BFP. How is your FSH level? Mine was high but I'm still taking the chance and hoping for the best.
  • Ryanhl,
Even in theory that you may have2 or3 eggs, but does not mean that you will pregnant with twin. However, Wish you best luck on the 2nd try. Don't worry much.
  • I am having my first IUI this month and my FSH is high too. I am looking at different diet books to manage the number has any tried any diets?
  • Candice1594,
That's very interesting. I haven't heard of diet books to lower your FSH number. What is your FSH (if you feel comfortable sharing)? Mine is 8... not great, but they said ok range. Are you using fertility drugs also?
  • My last test was 12.6 and that was with clomid. I am 40 and they are also concerned that I only currently show 3 follicle and I am told I should have 10 or more. I would have thought 8 would be in a good range what did they give you as a range?
  • Candice1594,
My doctor said that 8 to 10 was ok range and below 8 was considered good. I'm 36 and wanting to be a SMC. I've been doing IUI's (2) on my natural cycle. I'm hoping that this one takes, but if not I would like to try something different. I'm definately changing donors... and am possibly considering fertility drugs. I wish you lots of luck on your first IUI. :)
  • simplesteps:
My levels are still high until sunday morning. I'm starting to spot just a little will see what happens through out the day...I'm still hoping for the best.

Can I ask how old you are? I too worry about having more than one baby and being able to afford it financially! I am a school teacher almost 35 years old. I am in the beginning stages with my doctor for ICI! I wonder about who I would find for daycare? A home daycare would really be cheaper.
  • Hi Kbart,
I'm a school teacher also. I am 36 years old. I'm thinking about an at home daycare too. I haven't figured out the details yet. Now I'm on my third IUI (second one didn't take). I'm still trying to stay hopeful. Best of luck to you! :)
  • Ryanhl....I was just checking in on any progress with you! Your second IUI was end of DEC. What new did you get? I was just wondering! I haven't read all the forum yet so maybe I missed your results if you posted them.

Oddly enough....I read that you were considering donor number 11118. That is one of my 5 picks for now. I have some months to go. Picking a donor is so hard! How long before you did your IUI's did you buy the donor vials? I should probably be buying them now?! Did you order any extra info on them from CCB like the long questionaire? I would like to narrow my search down to 2 or 3 donors and then buy some of that I think!
  • Hey kbart,

My second IUI didn't work. I switched donors for my third IUI & I'm in the dreaded two week wait. I think that this IUI was timed much better.... so I'm hoping for good news. I tried to buy 2 vials of sperm about two weeks before the procedure time. (I bought 2 because shipping is so expensive & it's the same price whether you ship 1 or 2). I'm waiting to order the long questionaire for when I actually get pregnant. Best of luck in deciding on a donor.
  • Thanks you!!! Good idea to wait till after getting pregnant to buy the long questionaie. Didn't think of that! :-)
  • Hey, guys. Just a thought about the health history on the long questionnaire. You may be surprised and disturbed by some of the health history. waiting may not be a good idea because if he has several family members with the same illness or substance abuse problem or mental health problem---it may likely be genetic. Things are even worse if your side of the family has a predisposition for that same problem.

Beyond the health problems, the long questionnaire has temperaments of family members. Temperament is a large part genetic.

Finally, there is info on prior pregnancies, and a place that hints about pregnancies ending in abortion or miscarriage. Plus, it asks about venerial diseases and current drug use and religious preference. Many men are brutually honest. I read one that talked of not believing in God. Several others that admitted to current and regular marijuana use. Another with many in their family that are addicted to drugs or alcohol.

I just wanted to let you know that the long questionnaire could actually be used to 'rule-out' donors that you would not be proud to tell your child all about, or that might cause you concern regarding the family health.
  • Health History is THE most important piece of information you get on the Long Questionaire. I find that many donors have cancer in their history. Genetic history is so, so important! Sone donors reveal they are color blind. You are making an investment in your child's future. It's worth it!
  • Ryanhl,
I have a cramping on my left side of the ovary in front from 1dpiui to now (8dpiui). It is not painful but something is in there. Today, my breast is tender than usual, my period is due next Wed/Thurs.

I talked to my bro. He said that I feel that because of IUI procedure. Better wait to see whether my period will come next week.

So far, I have PMS a week ahead of period as I used to have.

The only thing that I notice is I feel something on the left side of my ovary everyday after IUI until now.

I may take HPT test on next Tuesday. I don't raise my hope much and talk to myself that it is okay if I get negative HPT and my period comes back next week.

    God Bless us on.
  • hannaha,

I don't want to get your hopes up too much, but those symptoms sounds very promising...I had the exact same symptoms and I am now 7 weeks pregnant. Don't get discouraged though if you get a BFN at first, test again in a couple days. I got a BFN on 11 DPO, but then a BFP on 12 DPO!

    Keep us posted!
  • Great thanks MistyandCarla,
Now my breast is full and i feel it much tender to the notice level.

I'm lucky that my family completely forget about my IUI. Nobody asked me when I'm going to test. I'm only one who read every night about how people felt on the pregnancy symptoms.

I also took home folic acid supplement and eat all green salad during last week, because I read about first trimester and how important folic acid will be for the baby.

I'm planning cook all food by myself eventhough I don't know where to put that time into my schedule..:). But If I want, I will., this is just the beginning of the long journey through life. I and my baby..:). need to work together to go through this..:).

Honestly, my OBGYN specialist is a friend of my bro(a dentist), so he just put it in, and me, so nervous, didn't know how to deal with my first IUI. I was hurt at that moment. When I closed my eyes and tried to put my pelvic down hurfully, and cried and told to myself "Oh, baby please...:).

I wait until this Friday is my first due period- so 4 more days to go. I'll let you all know how does it go.

Before the day of IUI, I went to the Vietnamese temple for Lunar New Year, I pray for my baby wish, and get the lucky message. The best one that I ever have in my life. I do my wish at the temple every year, but this is first time, I mentioned about my baby wish.

When I went to the IUI that morning, I just felt so sure strangely, that will be this time. That feeling is not my personality. My breast much tender than my regular period, because I have small breast, now I feel that my bras become tighter to the notice level.

I slept 10 -12 hours every night, that is not strange to me, because I'm one who can sleep hours more than any one else.

Will Let you the updates, God bless us all.
  • hannaha, I am praying for you that your child is healthy and growing right now.. Good luck to you both!! Can't wait to hear.
  • Thanks nbailey,
I was not pregnant...:). I'm preparing for my second IUI with Clomid (50mg) will be coming in the next two weeks.

Wish You and your cute baby always have a lot of fun and happiness and loud...:).
  • Hannaha,

I pray that you get pregnant. As a Endometriosis (three surgeries) suffer I thought I wouldn't get pregnant, but I did get pregnant on the first try and I now have a beautiful baby girl, but donor 11455. He has three kids of his own and a great profile. If you don't get pregnant after three IUI's you may want to switch donors.
  • Thanks Sunprincess,

I just cancelled my 3rd IUI, because I have huge follicle - 4cm on the right side where my right tube is blocked.

So I'm taking a break and come back next month. I also stop taking clomid. I may try injectable Gonal F (75 ui) next month.

I can imagine how happiness will bring to us when our baby comes to life.
Wish you always have a wonderful and happy moment to your adorable baby girl...:).
