Sperm Life

I am currently deciding on a donor. My first choice 3627 has a date on his profile of 9-24-03, can you tell me what is the quality of sperm frozen as time goes by. Maybe this is a silly question but I want the best odds possible as I am getting older.

Thank you

Kim

  • Hi Kim,

Good question. Once sperm is frozen and stored in liquid nitrogen, it is viable for an indefinite amount of time. Once thawed, there is no measurable difference in "quality" between sperm frozen one year or ten.

So don't worry about how long ago vials from your favorite donor were frozen. Your chances of a successful pregnancy will be just as good as they would with more recently frozen vials.

    Good luck,

  • Did you end up using this donor? I had two successful pregnancies with this donor. I look forward to hearing from others who may have had the same experience!!
