Fertility Drugs on 1st IUI

I am porting to find out if anyone has used fertility drugs before their first IUI treatment?

We are about 2 weeks and a half away from our first IUI cycle and the fertility clinic has offered fertility drugs which will better time ovulation. We are up in the air about whether or not to use them, the clinic is trying to increase our chances of cnception as much as possible...which we greatly appreciate. My partner has not had any fertility issues so we are unsure of wether or not to go without.

Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Our RE suggested we do our first IUI with medication too even thought my 34 year old partner had no known fertility issues. She took 50mg of Clomid days 5-9 of her cycle. We are on our 3rd medicated IUI and currently on our two week wait. It seems to me that medicated IUI's are standard procedure at our RE's office, but I think it just depends on the doctor. I've read a lot of other women's posts who did theirs unmedicated. Sorry, wish I had a success story to share, but maybe I will soon! Good luck to you!

    Good luck to you too.
    and
Thank you for your response I am glad that other people received the same advice, as I was alittle nervous whether or not it was a good idea. I saw that Clomid is the most popular drug used to time ovulation so Im assuming that is what they are leaning towards, we will find out more on Monday at our appt.

    Thanks again.

Hi Mashuginah. I'm glad you brought this up. My RE had me do the first IUI using no meds (only the hcg trigger shot), and it was unsuccessful. This time around he recommended no drugs again. I'm hoping we have success this time around...but if not I'm going to have a talk with him about adding Clomid. I'm 32 and have no fertility issues that I know of, but we only have 3 remaining vials of our donor sperm (he has been "discontinued" :-( ), so we really want to do whatever it takes to get this show on the road.

We'll be doing the IUI around the same time as you guys - I'm going in for my u/s on 1/24, and if my calculations are right, I'll have the IUI 1/28. You'll have to let how yours goes!

JenandTraci - good luck during your 2WW...I just experienced my first 2WW late Dec/early January and I really couldn't think of anything else the whole time. I am wishing you guys so much luck this time. I am hoping we all get a BFP in the very near future!!!

Hi girls! I would definitely recommend taking the fertility drugs. Our reproductive specialist also wanted to increase our chances as well. Although they are a little pricy, we lucked out and did get pregnant on the first IUI. My partner didn't have any fertility issues either. Good luck!

    Update:

We did ended up taking the Clomid but unfortunatly they found a polyp in my parnter's uterus on Friday so our insemination will be waiting til next month, so this month they are going to take blood and check her progesterone lvl and perform a DNC to remove the polyp. Better now then after we tried for a few months since the polyp stops a woman from getting pregnant.

The tests we had were an HSS and an SIS to check Fallopian Tubes and Uterus on a sonogram, our doctor informed us that alot of couples opt out of this tests (especially young couples thinking nothing could be wrong) and end up spending time and money on inseminating and find out later, so Id encourage everyone to have this test before your first IUI/ICI/IVF.

    Good Luck everyone.
