Follicular Ultrasound Timing for IUI?

Hi, Just wondering if anyone has any words of wisdom for the timing of the follicular ultrasound. I became pregnant with a known donor right after I went off the pill, so I didn't have a history of being able to chart my cycles. After my miscarriage last month I had a normal period so I decided it was time to start trying again. I think my cycles are on the longer side. Should I wait until I am showing signs of fertility (egg white secretion, open cervix)? My insurance doesn't cover fertility so I don't want to have to go in multiple times. Any suggestions would be helpful.
