Hello,

How many pregnancies have been reported for donor 03698? Also, his short profile has a date of 2003 - does that mean the samples have been on ice for a while?

    Hi-

    We have more than 5 reported pregnancies for this donor. The amount of time a specimen is frozen has no effect on its viability once thawed. It makes no difference if it was frozen yesterday or 10 years ago as long as it remains frozen in liquid nitrogen the entire time.

    For the record, profiles are filled out during the qualifying process. Donors can remain in the program for as long as two years depending on how often they donate. Remember it takes a minimum of 9 months just to qualify and most donors are college students who do not donate during summer vacation. A donor with a profile completed in 2003 may easily still be producing vials into 2005.
