So Confused....1st IUI using Clomid and Trigger Shot

I am in a same sex marriage, we are looking to start trying in November. My doctor recommended that I take clomid and do a trigger shot too so hopefully it will take the first try..... I was wondering if anyone could explain the process of using Clomid, the trigger shot, and IUI.
From what I understand is you Start taking Clomid Cycle Day 3-9, then make a appointment with the doctor to get a trigger shot, then IUI 24-36hrs after.
I am confused about how far apart from taking Clomid do you get your trigger shot? Am I suppose to wait till I ovulate after taking Clomid before I get the trigger shot?
I know I all over the place but I'm hoping someone can explain the exact process. Thanks in Advance.
