Using IUI in place of ICI

My partner and I have been told contradictory stories on the difference between IUI and ICI.
1. You can use IUI vials the same as ICI (home insem. method).
2. Using IUI vials have to be inseminated by doc into the uterus and cannot be used like ICI (home method) due to the fact that insemination into the cervix needs the unwashed semenal fluid to make it to the uterus. Using IUI would greatly decrease chances of PG.
Any advice, experience, or opinions?
